Layman's guide to Liberal theft

Basically this is how it worked.

The Liberals came up with a scheme called the sponsorship program. They then awarded contracts to friends that were in the ad business. The friends then overcharged and sometimes billed for work that was never done. In exchange they were to give part of that money back to the liberals in the form of party donations and keep the rest for their "services". The Liberals then spent the money on getting re-elected. The theft was about a quarter of a billion dollars (that we know of so far)

So in essence they stole our money and then bought the election with it. It doesn't get much worse than curtailing the very basics of democracy and even worse with our own money. Throw in the fact that the public works minister responsible for many of the contracts is an alleged foot soldier for the Bonanno crime family and you have the makings of a classic third world corrupt government.

Oh yeah and if it were up to the Liberals you'd still have to go to the US to find out information on your own country.

If the Liberals get re-elected after all of this i'm seriously considering moving because i will never take this country seriously ever again.

I watched the news last night and after about 15 minutes I wanted to pack up and go live in Turks & Caicos or something in a little beach hut and sit around and do nothing all day for the rest of my life.

It's time to elect a new party. Like i said, after all this if we are stupid enough to re-elect these guys we will be showing all politicians that they can steal all they want because even if they get caught we will re-elect them anyways. This is how corrupt regimes succeed in third world countries. I don't want us to become a third world country.

You're very wrong. Clearly the Lieberals were at fault here. We need to clear the rot and reform the federal government.

By re-electing those who stole from us we will become fucked no matter who is in charge because it will teach all politicians in all parties that they can get away with stealing. It's basic human nature. That's why we have to elect another party in the next election to show them that there are consequences for stealing both our money and the election.

I suppose some people may not understand a very important issue. The liberals in effect bought the election. They had so much stolen money that no other party had a chance against them. If they had not stolen our money perhaps democracy would have been allowed to happen. If these findings were released anywhere else Toronto would literally be in chaos right now and there would be general strikes as we speak.

see ya!

I actually laughed out loud when I read an article this week where Harper and the Conservative Alliance said that they won't bring down the gov't "for now". While they in fact could bring down the gov't, I suspect that the real reasons they dare not are:

1. the very real, very legitimate fear on their part that the Liberals would still win an election if it was called right now...in fact they'd probably have a larger margin of victory than they did last time.

2. the public backlash that would result against the Cons. for bringing down the gov't. They'd be perceived, no matter how they spin it IMHO, in a negative light for doing so.

Harper will never be PM...you can quote me on that. He's done nothing to improve his party's chances in the next election, whether now or years from now. Quebec will still never support that party, despite the time and effort they've put in there. Martin is front and centre, enjoying popularity.

Rightly or wrongly, most Canadians just don't care THAT much about the scandal. I suppose there's some sort of acceptance that every administation is "corrupt" to some extent and behaves in a somewhat similar manner. The Liberals got caught. To suggest that they are any more "evil" or underhanded is to be incredibly naive...

Wow i can't believe you just said that. Maybe i'm wrong, but to me it looks like you're saying "Yes, the government is corrupt, oh well, big deal". I can't agree with that philosophy at all!

The Liberals got caught, and they need to understand that they just cannot get away with things like that without being severely punished because of it! The way you're putting things is like saying all they need is a reprimand, perhaps a slight slap on the hand, and please, go on with your business as usual!

How could you possibly condone a behaviour like that?! While i'm not much into politics myself (nor are the people i live with), i still feel that this is a very big deal. We are not living in a third world country! Look at places like Africa where things like this happen all the time, and look at the situation they are in. They are 3rd World for a reason, corrupt governments and politicians are what have made them (and still make them) this way.

Canada is far from being third world but by God, it certainly seems like some sort of regression is going on here.

he did say "most Canadians"... and nowhere did he say that is his own "philosophy" either.

and I have to agree with him - most Canadians are way too busy with their lives to even think about the government and scandals/corruptions that happen within it. Hell, most of us are trying to stay away from gov't as much as possible...
