the perfect tracklist

So I am just starting to get my feet wet mixing and i am trying to build a perfect setlist for like a 80 min mix

Is it inappropriate to use a song by the same producer twice? Or two remixes by the same guy?
I find i like a lot of stuff that lets say sebastian ingrosso or axwell remix but would it be wrong to put like 2 axwell remixes on one mix?
if so why?
thanks

Is it wrong to put two songs or remixes by the same producer? Hell no. Do whatever sounds right to you.

redundancy

Yeah, I just find a lot of the big DJs don't do it, and I try not to sound redundant, so I was curious

Actually youd be suprised, i see a lot of back to back same artists on some big name TLs.. in fact sometimes 2 different mixes of the same song back to back.

playing an entired 2 hours of pvd or steve angello or whoever your fav. producer is another story.

otherwise go nuts.

Naw. But it's inadviceable to put them beside eachother in a set I guess. But for promotional purposes, I would show the people as much variety as possible really. You might wanna show you got plenty of vinyls...

Other than that I agree with dinoXpress;

go nuts

The best advice there is for anyone agonising over a track list. Just play the music you love, in the order you think it should be played in, and the rest will take care of itself. If it's a good tune, play it.

as a promoter i don't give a shit if you have as much variety as possible, variety is good mind you and if you started your mix off with deep house and was able to work it up to some really energetic trance or hard dance i'd be impressed, but it's not something i look for cause if you can do that, you'd have been playing out for a while already

i'm mainly looking at track flow and how good the transitions are

also, how is the "energy" throughout the set and will it fit with where i would like to place the dj

if the energy isn't where i'd like it to be but the mix itself was a good one, i'd call the dj up and see if he/she were able to go a little harder or a little softer to fill the slot properly

do what sounds good and right, tell me a story, don't just play a bunch of records together, think about how the songs will go together to create a mood

also, for a demo cd, be sure to label it with your name, alias, and contact info (email, phone or both)

so many times i'll get a cd with just an alias and what the cd is named and i'll have no way to get in contact with the dj

sander kleinenberg ended disc 2 of 'this is everybody too' with
12) redanka - waves (e-mission mix)
13) redanka - waves (bay of islands mix)

so i guess you can just go ahead and do what you want.

a lot of times i will play 'kenneth thomas & elevation - preen' and 'kenneth thomas & elevation - varekai' near eachother, if not, mixed into eachother in the same set, with 'elevation - somewhere (clear blue)' as an opening track. if it flows good, feels good, and sounds good, no one should really care who produced your tracks.

James Holden's Balance 005 got two mixes of Outhouse right after eachother on CD 1 iirc as well. Nothing wrong with that I suppose, that is, if you're able to pull it off well.

as does sasha in fundacion with "come to me"

a lot of times i think throwing out two mixes of the same track back to back sounds great, especially if they're mixed together really creatively
