Yay or Nay?

For those who all hailed yay, will you post your opinions of his most prized work, please?

He's at the spearhead of the whole "Italian Techno" block of producers. Basically slightly melodic mid-bpm techno, somewhere in sound between early Detroit Techno and Tech-House. I guess. Back when I was looking into techno I was listening to sets from him along with Heiko Laux. I'd reasoned that their styles were somewhat similar production-wise. You may or may not find the same. Some of his sets I liked because they were more straightforward, pounding, cold, unrelenting type stuff. Some were full of melodic sounds I couldn't get into. Not with Techno.

In general he makes loopy stuff, repetitive, but he manages to inject some melodious elements into a lot of it. If I remember right. I think there's at leeeassst....a 75% chance you'll like him. I think his album "Open System" might be a good place to start. Maybe. Or his recent minimal works.

Yup, most famous example of the Napolitan sound (or Italian as you like). Most famous releases are his Question series and probably Diapason and Avalanche as well (most of you might have heard those somewhere, both were quite a hit). Avalanche got some poor remixes last year, best to stay away from them.

Too bad he also felt the need to resort to the more minimal side of things as of late (with his Do.Mi.No series), not to my liking, although people more into minimal seem to rate the releases quite well.

Seem him live once, he did the job quite well, his sets are pretty good overall methinks.

You can't talk about marco carola without mentioning question 7, my favourite tech-houser to come out of italy, probably of all time in fact. The whole question series is pretty good stuff, I'd also recomend the open systems album, some brilliant breaks tracks on that one as well as the peak time techno (open source).

Other than that, he seems to be one of these dj/producers who is veering towards this minimal style, not altogether, but there is certainly evidence of it in his production and sets (namely his essence promo mix). He has started a new label called do.mi.no. (or domestic minimal noise). Seems to be really solid stuff that he's releasing on there.

Most that needs to be said about this man has been mentioned already. I'll just add that he is (was?) the head of Zenitmusic, a solid label for the more functional tool techno releases. This CD provides a good outlet of some of its best releases. Not as low on home listening factor as you'd suspect either, despite the fact that it was obviously made for DJing purposes.

I'm a big Carola fan in terms of what he plays and produces. His DO.MI.NO label has showcased some great tracks including 'Night & Day', 'Sun City' and 'Express Yourself'. Question 9 is one of my favourite productions of his. DO.MI.NO 5 is very catchy so look out for that which should be coming out soon. His Essence Promo Mix remains one of the best sets I have regarding the more minimal stuff, also check out his sets from Robots (March 2005), Spray Club (May 2005) and Goa (also May 2005).

THAT is what im talkin' about!!!!! HELL YEAH! That is girly techno right there I know that's probably not what Carola is all about hahaa but since you provided the links, I naturally dove in here first... I'm really, really feeling FFM. It has this dizzying, sunny, tropical feel. ALL those samples are niiiice. Buying now! Thanks. Based on previous posts, you've gave me some very, very, very georgous, chilled or melodic techno. Thanks

I've made some progress: Steel and Diapason are
brutal. I really like Questions A1 and Gaussen as well. I've searched Open System and plan on purchasing.

Thanks for all your help! This thread will be a reference guide for awhile. Does Carola's minimal = Hawtin's minimal? or more so Theorem's/ Basic Channel's minimal?
