Tiësto, London 27th July 2005 (photo!)
This is a party report I wrote from when Tiësto came to Turnmills in London on the 27th July 2005.
~~~~~
When I heard he was coming to town I made sure I was free that night.
I looked on the internet to get a ticket, but when they add their service fee's and all that crap I decided I wouldnt bother because when I saw him last year at Heaven there was no problem getting in.
So I got my train from Bexley in SE London at around 21:30, to London Bridge, then a connection to Farringdon.
I ended up arriving at Turnmills at 23:00, 30 minutes after the club opened. But I was welcomed by a 5 wide massive long queue.
I wasnt sure what 2 think, I thought as this was a large club the queue would dissolve quite quickly, but after around 2 hours the bouncers were walking up and down the queue to say that there would be another hour or two wait and even then there would be no guarantee of entry.
Alot of people were annoyed, especially the fans that had travelled from different parts of the globe. Some people climbed out of the
queue, but I had no intention of walking away then, because Tiësto is my favourite DJ and the fact I have been waiting over a year for this visit made me stay put.
It was cold with only a t-shirt on and a guy behind me was blagging to some first timers that he'd been coming to this club for over ten years and even had his 30th birthday party there. He kept on repeating himself, in the end he said how he felt his loyalty wasnt being appriciated so the head bouncer told him to jump over with his new mate and they walked in! So blagging really does work, but I felt annoyed that I shuda been talkative with him then I coulda tagged along.
Soon after a dark people carrier pulled up across the busy road followed by cheering, I leaned over the hundreds of shoulders and saw Tiësto's figure rushing into the club. That
was a brilliant perk and I was very eager to get in, but still I waited and it was now about 01:30.
When I was near the front of the queue I saw a guy complaining to the bouncers about waiting for so long and they said it was simply a popular night and there was nothing they could do, but still the guy argued, so they bouncer literally said get out of the queue, and this was 3 hours after joining the queue!
At 03:30 I finally got to the front of the queue. The club were letting in 6 people in at a time. I walked in to greet loads of people. I edged my way towards the Gallery and I
was desperately looking for the DJ booth where Tiësto would be situated, then I looked to my left and saw a door with a window in and everyone was looking in it because that was the door to the DJ booth and Tiësto was right there, only feet away doing his magik! I edged round to the front of the decks and got a much better view. I took some photos of him which was really difficult but I did achieve a nice one:
He played some excellent tracks including old classics like Andain - Beautfiul Things and a hard remix of Nyana which I havent heard before.
After he finished I saw someone offer there hand over the CD decks and Tiësto shook his hand, so I offered my hand and he shook mine too, I was so happy!!
I edged back to the door to the DJ booth and saw the bouncers were bringing him out so I took some more photos and followed out to some doors near the entrance to the club. So I went outside to the main entrance of Turnmills and a few minutes later Tiësto appeared waiting for a car to take him away. I tried to talk to him but he was obviousily tired and went back in while he waited but maintaining a welcoming smile. Seconds later a cab arrived and Tiësto jumped in with two men and what may of been his partner.
I shouted goodbye and goodluck with the US Concerts and off he went. In all the experience wasnt as good as Heaven (Just Be launch party) but the fact that this visit was much more personal, being up close and being able to shake his hand, made the night worth it!
I look forward to his next visit and I will be buying a ticket!!!!
