mixing vocal trance

ive started to notice how im buying alot of vocal trance records. i just wanted to know what your opinions are on spinning vocal trance songs back to back. and also, i read on a thread some days ago that some of you hold ur mixes from 1 to 5 minutes..being that most songs will bring in the vocals before 2 minutes. would ur mixes be shorter?

If you want to mix vocals back to back then go for it. if its ur style in DJing then its the only thing you can do. It can sound nice, just gotta know when to bring in the cued track. People can hold mixes for a long time but you would rarely see someone hold the track coming in long enough for it's vocals to mix in with the 1st track's vocals. Can sound off with two people singing different words to a different meoldy at a different note. But i must say, there are mixes that do have vocals on top of eachother and it came out pretty tight. Just takes practice, practice, and more practice to get that sound u r looking for. DONT LET ANYONE STOP U FROM MIXING VOCALS BACK TO BACK IF U WANT TO DO IT!!! IT'S UR STYLE

Agreed, if it's your thing then do it.
Although, as said with vocals your really don't want them to mix over the top of eachother as it can sound rough as hell. Unless you find some tunes that complement each other nicely which does happen.

As for people mixing for 5 minutes, most people who say they do don't actually. A DJ isn't judged on how long he can hold a mix, but how well placed the tune was and the effect it had on the dance floor.
Given that your average trance track is around 6 or so minutes it's pretty pointless to mix for so long and unless you are doing a live mash up (which I do from time to time) it doesn't usually do that much for the tunes.
Unless you have a really musical ear most times you will actually piss people off who very often want to hear the original track not some guy being clever.

But as said, do what you want man! If vocal trance is your thing then go for it. There are a lot of people especially the ladies who like it and atleast for the earlier part of the evening this will work very well.

Cheers
Nem
