Techno isn't dead. Aria has stopped booking techno, that's the biggest change for techno bookings in Montreal (which since a year before sona closed is a sizeable piece of the pie). People will say they aren't booking techno because the crowds aren't coming out.. but something that has to be kept in context, is the crowds aren't coming out for other reasons, and not primarily because they don't like listening to "techno". It's not one reason, there are many factors.
I'm a little surprised about this thread though.. talk to me about techno at Aria when there are actually a FEW bookings coming up.. it's actually kind of a slap in the face that the only 'booking' in months and probably for the rest of 2005 is the former resident dj back in Canada touring. ZERO disrespect to preach, he rocks, but imagine another scenario where they stop booking house headliners and then the one booking in ages is Lafleche or something. It's not the best analogy, but I think the point is made.
Carl Cox @ 1234 doesn't count as an aria techno booking IMO.. especially since he is likely to play a house heavy set and not much techno.
