Smiley DJ EFx Tips and Tricks

I have the Pioneer 600 Mixer and also the pioneer EFX 500. Wanted some advice on how to use the different efx.
Tricks, tips, etc.
Thanks!

moderation is the key, dont use them too often... if you do this, once you do say bust out some flanger in the middle of the break down it will sound so much cooler then if your sitting there playing around with the EFX the whole entire time...

focus on your beat matching before playing with the EFX processor

have fun with your mixer

Depending on the layout of the tracks you are playing, having a 600 can be a very helpful tool. For example, let's say you have a record playing live on Platter A and you set the echo effect for the record on Platter B. You can turn the bass down a bit & adjust the rest of the EQ's and then echo a drum or bongo from Record B. Then once again depending on how good you are with cutting samples you can work your way into different build ups by echoing samples from one record into another. The same can be done with virtually any effect on the 600.

The delay-effect can be fun on monotone tracks or when in a intro/outro, to spice things up a bit.

i like the echo effect.....

move the parameter 1 anti clock wise until it reads nmuber 1 on the display, set parameter 2 at a nice level so its not gonna blast in. As the track goes along u can bring it in and when u bring it in move parameter 1 upto around 9 slowly, you'l get what i mean when u hear the effect.

you can definitely do a lot with the echo. sometimes if i have a loud buildup, i'll apply the echo during the crescendo to add intensity. if there's not some rolly bassline it usually sounds pretty good but i've had moments where the echo on a bassline sounded awful when applying that trick.

fuck it tho - play around until ya find something cool. most times i learned a new trick was by going to town and enjoying myself while i was playing live.

the echo is an amazing effect. still learning new ways to use it.

One trick that's really effective is a trick i've seen Erick Morillo use all the time. In essence, he creates his own build up. I'm not exactly sure what he does, but the result is that he has the echo going (i think), or sets a loop w/ the echo. not sure if he raises the pitch or just increases the echo as he does it. and then, whenever he wants i think he resumes the song and it hits, probably kicks the bass up @ that point. really sounds nice when done well, hope I explained it clear

on the efx ...

set the delay effect on 1/2 beat.
set the top knob to about 9 o'clock.
while the tune is playing, pull the fader down and cut out the bass hit, so the fader is up between the bassline, as u do this, turn up the bottom knob on the efx to anything below half way, thos catchs the tune between the bass and then delays it when there is no bass.
