Stickies in production forum

Ahoy hoy. I'd like to address a problem that's been around in the production studio for a long time and has become even more persistent since the search function went offline. I've also got a proposed solution, so I'm not just here to complain.

To put it simply, we get a lot of the same questions repeated. I know this happens everywhere, but it happens *a lot* in the production studio. Some are generic questions that have simply been answered many times before, but some are actually really stupid questions that even the n00bs should know better than to ask (like "where can I find a crack for this program" or "how do I rip the vocals out of this track"). Those types of threads are very frustrating for the serious or even semi-serious producers and (IMHO) make the forum look bad in general.

I'm sure all the mods here will agree that it doesn't make sense to try to counter this with incredibly strict moderation (and most of you have better things to do anyway). What we can do, however, is make the information easier for them to find, including answers to the really stupid questions.

Right now there are 8 stickies on that forum, 9 if you include the DJ poll announcement. When there are this many stickies, they get ignored. This isn't speculation, it's a fact that's been proven conclusively on that forum. It's not that the sticky threads there don't have good information, it's just that the information simply isn't organized clearly and concisely enough in order to be accessible to the n00bs, who are the ones that need those threads the most.

I am not asking anyone else to organize the information. I have already taken on that responsibility by creating a "master list" of tutorials and useful threads (Click here). Swamper should be particularly familiar with the "master list" idea, as it worked quite well for us in the Toronto forum before the Events forum was created. I also posted a kind of a FAQ earlier on, and I'm going to polish that off and post it as a fresh thread. The "rough" version is a few posts down in here, but again, I'm going to clean it up.

I think if we had these two threads stickied and *only* these two threads, it would really help to cut down on a lot of the nonsense we see on that forum. I recognize that the current stickies contain good information, which is why I've included links to them in the "master list", so they wouldn't be lost forever if they got un-stickied.

Again, I am more than willing to take on the responsibility of keeping these threads up to date - I am not asking, and do not wish, to create extra work for any of the moderators/admins. If you guys approve of the idea please let me know and I'll PM one of you when the FAQ is done.

Thanks very much for your time!

effectively putting all the sticky threads in one is a very good idea.
i have stuck your thread and unstuck all the other relevant ones.

the remainig stuck threads are not covered, i would imagine these are going in the faq, so pm me or one of the other mods if im not about so this can be put into place.

it has been for a problem for a while and it is a very good idea of how to sort it out. now have fun keeping them updated them lol
