The tiesto interview was an interesting interview grooveradio had with tiesto. tiesto talks about his upcoming U.S. concert and also more. one part i found most interesting was that he now is using [almost] zero vinyls. he also openly admits he has been struggling with cds and that he has had problems with the mixing and admits he has trainwrecked(he used that word) more than he would like, but that he is getting better and should be mixing 'flawless' hopefully in a few more months. he says this is because he has always been such a vinyl dj and that mixing vinyls is much easier for him, but its 2005 and he is embracing the technology and that vinyls are pretty much dead. im not defending him or his mixing but this is definitly a little enlightening. alot of people on these boards give him so much shit about his mixing because they say he doesnt give a shit or he is drunk, arrogant or whatever. now it seems to be more of harder learning curve than anything. i guess time will tell, just thought the interview was very candid and insightful on the "he's a shitty mixer" debate.
given that the guy has been spinning vinyl for 20+ years, it might have been a little harder for him than alot of new age djs who are more adept to todays technology. |
I decided to quote a TA because Mattivi's point erases a lot of the misconceptions that Tiesto is not a great mixer on the decks.
Here is an October 2005 video on him using vinyl. As usual the mixing is superb. Eventually he will master the art of mixing on CD's
