My rant on Tenaglia...plz read!
Ok,ok ok......just came across this here and it looks like danny will be chonking it out halloween night in nyc for you lucky peeps, but im just wondering what the fuck is tenaglia like? Is he all hype? Ive heard stories that he once graced our shores in the mid 90's and played to a half empty club and vowed never to return to ireland! I remember reading an interview with Terry Farley about why he was so bad in dublin that time and farley put it that Tenaglia covered so many different styles (soulful, hard, trancey, techno) that some people judged him by the parts of his set they didn't like. He also mentioned how some US DJ's tend not to travel well, presumably Tenaglia may be one of them???? There were the stories of when he first played in the UK, and at the end of the night there were a line of high profile UK DJ's wanting to shake his hand, and Tenaglia refused to leave the DJ booth to meet them.A mate of mine has an interview with him at home on CD Rom, and he comes accross quite prima-donnaish, I'd imagine he takes himself uber-seriously?
Ive mate who once saw him at at Summer Sound System and danny played for 10hrs,said he was good if somewhat self indulgent at times.Played his own 20minutes long remix of Rui Da Silva - Touch Me......I mean ffs, no wonder you play 18 hr sets and that! He also played the original Jumpin Jack Flash by the stones! Now theres stories that he's in declining health and has scaled back travelling gigs, hence not playing dublin or london or the likes much.
And I think that dark/tribal America/Twisted sound has gone out of fashion of late somewhat. I think when he's soulful he's incredible, and some of his remixes have been outstanding (Soulboy, Kinane, NYLX, KOT) and also his production work is amazing the "elements" double pack he had out on Twisted is a serious dj tool, and the G.U stuff was good & Tourism is a great album.
Any body care to enlighten me?

he's an amazing house dj, no doubt about it, but he is a bit of a queen, or at least he was during his Arc residency. I'll occasionally go onto his board and read through some of his rants that really make him come off as a diva. But behind the decks he is a master. But there have definitely been times (at Arc) when I wish he would just play records as opposed to using his flashlight to patrol the club.
he's a total sweetheart and an amazing DJ. i could say a lot here but i think you really need to go see for yourself.
i shall be there tonight!

Danny is an amazing dj, and can be a very nice guy. Sometimes he's a little full of himself, but you gotta give him mad props for what he does up there. He is probably my favorite dj. He is not in declining health, he just prefers to play here to his home crowd. He could play all over the world if he wanted to, but he choses to play at home, sleep in his own bed, I respect that. He rocked london last year, you missed out.

Tenaglia's message board DTourism is gas, the Nazis were rank amatuers compared to that lot,I remember reading a rant he posted himself years ago where he complained that people were using there mobiles while he was playing at his night in Vinyl, Be yourself. He came across a right twat on that one.
Him and derrick carter are the two dj's id fuckin kill to see.

hubbish gubbish... I like that, Im stealing it!
Ive seen DT 2 or 3 times, when it comes to just house music, he is the father, godfather, grandfather, etc... of it. The guy has been doing it for 3 decades now - I dont think there are any DJ's that could stay that committed to the scene, he truely loves the music and his fans.

I was referring to his occasional diva-ish behavior, not really his music...
