Henry + Matthias + Alex...The Truth
The article below is concerning Henry + Matthias(Stoneface & Terminal) and Alex Morph. Until recently, the trio were popularly known as the massive 'Arc In The Sky' amongst other aliases such as Tribal Jedi,Ohm Boys,Deep Orbit etc.Recently, they split up because of certain reasons that I shall unveil.
Of course, there has been gossip and rumor about this since long but I hope that the information below is supportive of the actual truth Hopefully, sceptism shall be minimal.
First some basic information :
- Henry + Matthias are owners of Twohead Studios. This was where most of the Arc In The Sky/Alex Morph productions and remixes were done.
- Henry + Matthias were not merely 'studio engineers' but were considerablely involved as producers, giving their input for even Alex's solo-productions/remixes in addition to their combined productions under 'Arc In The Sky'. This was easily noticeable(atleast to me) in a lot of solo Alex productions where the duo's influence was obvious. I'm sure other Arc in The Sky fans noticed this as well. A more obvious fact was that Henry and Mathias for their collective remix of Sunblind's 'Believe' on Monster. If you look at the credits on the back, the two of them are cleary NOT mentioned(Alex is of course). This was an 'Arc In The Sky' remix so it is explicitly clear that Henry and Matthias were part of it as well.
So, why wern't they credited?
This article revolves about the fact that Alex acted selfishly (in my opinion) for not DUELY crediting Henry + Matthias as he rightfully should have for a lot of his solo remixes/productions. Henry + Matthias were left in the dark whilst Alex was recieving all the recognition and international exposure.
About two months ago, Marc Van Linden was in Bangkok and the two of us had a long conversation about the general state of dance music. I was the one who raised the topic of the three of them and then Marc opened up and told me things from his perspective and about what Henry and Matthias had told him(confidential for now).
Below is an e-mail from Matthias expressing the combined views of himself and Matthias in response to an e-mail I sent them. What I had asked was the extent of their involvement with Alex on his productions/remixes and of course, their combined project/s. This is what he had to say :
Hi Varun,
Arc in the Sky was a Project by us + Alex. Henry & I produced the Tracks & Remixes @ our TwoHeadStudio. We also made the Remix for Nairobi @ our Studio but there were no Credits on the Vinyl…
If you look @ our Homepage under "Sideprojects", you can see the Tracks & Remixes we produced @ our TwoHeadStudio. We never were just engineers but the producers of all this stuff.
We were not happy about the fact that everybody thought Alex made this tracks for himself.
As we know Alex has new Producers called "Ferrin & Low". They made the Alex Morph Remixes for "ATB-Humanity"-"Andy Moor-Halcyon" & "Matt Darey feat.Izzy-eternity".
You don't have to bring these facts out to the open because it's hard to make them believe in these things. There are so many Acts & DJ´s who has their producers but nobody cares about them.
In the future we will give all power to our "Stoneface & Terminal" Project. The Collab with Ron is more a funny work. We will see what the future brings but at the moment there are no plans for a new Side project ;o)
All the best
Henry & Matthias
If people want, I can post the e-mail I sent them as well.
So there you have it. Some may believe that my opinion is biased but somehow I am strongly inclined to side with Henry and Matthias. As always, there are two sides of the coin and I've just revealed one side of it.
