I too was weary and afeard of those tiny computer speakers, i like large speakers.
This is prolly not great for music production but a potentially cheap way to go. $5 dollars US for a audio cord from radio shack to connect sound card to home stereo system.
I just connected my computer to my stereo. When a relative was throwing away a partly broken stereo (cd player broke) I took it and combined it with what I already had. Now the stereo acts like a 220 watt amp - (plenty loud enough for me) - and 4 speaker system - (2 from my stereo, 2 from the relative that was throwing them away). If i wanna play a cd i have to put it in the puter, but I still can also play the radio from the stereo.
works great, only i turn down the bass cause it travels so well to different floors and neihbors, as long as the base is turned down, they can't seem to hear my music, but if the base is on a little, everybody can hear it just as much as I hear it, thump thump thump - travels undiminished through walls.
