I respect producers who prefer to protect their property by posting only samples, low-bitrate versions, etc., but come on, what kind of attitude is that? Some people also like to share and just get their tracks played.

Sheesh, you'd think a 12" release is some sort of medal of honour, even if nobody buys it...

Oh and yeah, the 138bmp thing is a general guide line. I got a track submitted yesterday that clocks in around 137 but it "feels" right for playability at +2% - %4 bringing it up above 140bmp and that is where the fun really starts.


And yes, having a 12" release is much more valuable to a producers carreer than a fucking "download". Medal of honor? no. Passing the acid test in terms of producing a track that is viable for release - absolutely.

If its not on 12" vinyl, its not worth playing. NOTHING GIVEN HAS ANYTHING OF VALUE.

The producers who make the cut for the 12" release we do will be able to stand out from the digital noise surrounding us now, and recognition for that is NOT A BAD THING.

Keep the tracks coming people.

We got some really good stuff yesterday (quite impressed actually with the amount of good releasable tracks to crap ratio for a 24 hour period), and some of those tracks from producers are being considered for 12" release for BTR-006 and BTR-007. See, it does work!

Actually pressing your own vinyl isn't that expensive at all, i've looked into it once (check out http://www.discopress.be ),so it's not that special.

But i must be honest that when choosing between being released (on the record label's expense) on Vinyl or MP3 i think anyone would prefer Vinyl. Even if nobody buys it - getting an entry on www.discogs.com would seem cool.

Am i missing something here? i mean sure its different for the dj, but to the people in the club does it really matter? people you all need to chill and forget the differences between vinyl/cd for good. If the track is club worthy, it will be, it doesnt matter if the artist releases it on vinyl or not. But on the other hand, yeah, if it does become "the next big thing" then vinyl release is inevitable id say.

There are fundemental differences between vinyl and any digital playback format for DJ use that when considering the big picture are absolutely critical to the future of dance music as a whole.

Vinyl being the one that provides for that future in a way that many here simply can't understand because they have either short memories are are simply ignorant of the facts.

There is the entire realm of how vinyl sounds when correctly mastered and played back on a sound system such as those one would experience in a decent club or at a large event and how that relates to the musical material intended for presentation over such systems.

Then there is the peformance aspect.

Then there is the cultural impact of all of these factors.

When you look at the big picture, the patterns of history over the past 25 years of dance music and where we are at now, anyone with an objective mind can come to the same conclusion we have at Black Tiger Recordings and the DEJI Council. Vinyl is the ONLY way forward for DJ mixed use and performance.

Live pa's? go to town with whatever makes noise if you will. That's a completely different subject and I am not going to get into it here.
