thoughts on tiesto last night

last night was my first time seeing tiesto live. going in my expectations weren't all that high. i was pleasantly surprised by the lack of trainwrecks and all-around good mixing. track selection was pretty good, although i didn't approve of him killing my favorite one of the night (marcel woods - advanced) out of nowhere to end the show. all that being said, i am honestly shocked that he was voted #1 3 years in a row. having finally seen him live, i can say that i wouldn't even put in my top 5. pvd, sasha, JZ, digweed, armin, sander, etc. are all better IMO. i had a great time, and it was worth $60, but he's nowhere near #1.

yeah, last night.... having seen him around the globe...and my 3rd time in chicago... haven't seen him since june (where he was in a club)... but i must say, this was more of a concert than a party.... to listen to HIS tracks that he and co. produced..... especially after we heard olympic flame i was so bummed...

his set was TOO predictable b/c the crowd was well..uneducated about dance music and prolly only has heard his stuff, no one else's... he played some good tracks... too uplifting imo... i was writing all the trax in my phone and then my thing got erased...so here's what i remember:

mark norman - touchdown
mark norman - ID
airwave - air for life
allure - love we lost
marcel woods - advanced
palma solane - estuera
g&d - tracking treasure down
tiesto - flight643 (sigh...)
villa and coca - la noche
uhmm...and the rest i will remember later...

what was that ridiculous track he played, some american hit? i was like..omg.....sigh...

having said this: his set was TOO short, way too predictable...he needs to play small clubs again where he can improvise more and not think of the masses... but alas, that time has gone... would i go see him again? only if he plays in chicago @ millennium park..for an EXTENDED set...(ticket stubs claimed this was an extended set...pphwa)
i guess i got in a bad mood cuz ppl started throwing vodka red bulls from the balcony (or somwhere) and one of them landed exactly on my head and i was completely drenched, let alone the stinging the vodka did to my sweaty face...

But you know what, his goal is to bring dance music to everyone, and imo..he is accomplishing that for the next generation... I see ppl here in Chicago to start to accept electronic music WAY more than when I first moved here...

This was also my first time seeing Tiesto live, and based upon his set I also find it hard to believe he was #1 for that long. Even though the set was solid, it just did not meet my expectations. Overall the mixing was smooth, though it was probably not as good as Lauer's. His track selection was good, but not great. He was obviously pressed on time to finish his set so he cut "advanced" out of nowhere to my dissapointment as well, but still it was a good night.

The Killers- Mr Brightside(not sure what mix). I can appreciate the killers.

He did well.Too short 1:30??, but worth the trouble, Tracking Treasure Down was a nice suprise. He came did his job and left, what more do you want?

lauer dropped some outright BOMBS. i got there in the middle of his set...only one i recognized was ernesto vs. bastian - dark side of the moon (some awesome dub tech house mix). his mixing was basically flawless and track selection was fantastic. props to him.

I really enjoyed Tiesto's performance. I hadn't seen him live since DualPlay @ HOB back in 2003 and I must say that he did well last night. His set was diverse as expected. Some hard trance, some uplifting - all in all well balanced, I think. Knew most of the tracks that he played but there were some that I really wanna get my hands on. He has become much more than a trance DJ in recent years. He is definitely "commercial" now but I guess this is the price one pays to get to the #1 spot. Don't you think it's kind of sad that the top DJ's are moving away from vinyl? If it isn't CDDJ, then it's Ableton and Serato. Pretty soon the visual enjoyment of the good, old turntable is gonna disappear Btw, did he play a Mark Van Linden track at some point?

It was one of the worst Tiesto's ever and I've seen him many times, all over and never, just once he was so fucking bad.
The people who went there had no fucking clue, the set was beyond bad.
Worst night ever!

The only thing good about Tiesto last night was his fading.

His mixing was garbage.
His tracklisting was garbage.
I registered on this forum so that I could post here.

I've been an avid Tiesto fan for years. He got upstaged by the LOCAL talent. I glanced around the crowd and I saw a lot of yawns and a lack of bouncing.

When a song would start to build, he'd drop the beat out, keeping his set from actually going anywhere. It was a total plateau with no peaks.

Go to an Armin/Oakie show and you'll see the crowd jump almost the entire time. Tiesto had none of that going on. Something was wrong. Either he was on drugs, or he didn't have enough drugs.

AND WHAT THE FUCK WAS UP W/ THAT INSPIRATIONAL SAYINGS AND SHIT? I felt like I should have been in church. "MEMORY INSPIRATION LOVE CHURCH PRAY ABSTINENCE" - LOL

I agree, it was a waste of money, and I've never left a trance show before in my life. I always stay till they kick me out. I could not wait to get out of there. I was bored crazy. Me and four of my friends that I was there with all looked at each other about an hour and 10 minutes into his mix and we were all basically like "Let's get out of here, I'm bored."

I'm definitely NOT voting for Tiesto this coming year.

yes. all +1

but what do you mean, his fading? :-\ cutting out advanced?

its too much of a routine for him, he's got big gigs..this is more like a joke to him... sadly to sya! if he doesn't want to do a gig, do it later, make the best of it.... not so routine....
