zzounds.com

I don't know a single person that's had a bad experience with that place, and their prices tend to be a lot lower than most other retailers.

digi, do you buy from their even though you don't get the warrenty?

prices are a lot cheaper and it kills us canadians who wish we could get in on it, but when having to paying shipping, duties and all that BS, plus not getting a warrenty, i tend not to buy from the states.

^ I haven't bought any expensive studio equipment whatsoever. Usually I go to Long & McQuade because it's convenient and the sales people there aren't totally ignorant, but they aren't cheap, and I'm actually just about to order some stuff from zzounds. The duty charges do kill it for Canadians, but I have relatives in the U.S.

What's this about no warranty though? They have a 30-day no-questions-asked return policy, and afterwards you've got the manufacturer's warranty.

i don't know this for fact, but from my knowledge, manufacturers warrenties are only good in the country purchased, once the product changes country the warrenty becomes invalid.

the 30 return is good when they have that, the only bad part is u usually have to pay the shipping back to them if there a problem.

L&M is an awesome place to go music shopping, the sales people are really helpful from my dealings there, and they have everything out on display, i love just going to jam in their synth section...the only downside of course is the $$ i just baught my presonus firebox awhile back for $390CDN from them, on the US sites its $299US...which would be about $350CDN so if only we had the US prices here i woulda saved $40 bucks.

(one huge exception was i baught cd tables and mixer from etronics.com even after shipping duties taxes etc. i still saved a whopping $500 over buying it here!)

Interesting if true, where did you hear that? It doesn't sound right to me - I seriously doubt they'd be permitted by law to sell to those countries if it would void the warranty. If it's true, it would also depend on the manufacturer... I doubt that reputable ones would take such a stance, as it could potentially result in a lot of negative press for them.

How would a local store be able to offer you a warranty if they weren't being backed by the manufacturer's warranty? That doesn't add up either...

Of course you're right about the shipping; whether it's in-country or out-of-country, if you have a manufacturer's warranty but not a store warranty then you're probably going to have to pay shipping on any service.

don't have any sources to point u to off hand...read up on it though, or even email zzounds and ask them...if this wasn't the case i'd feel a lot more comfortable purchasing from the states, maybe theres an exception on some companies, but most i think void the warrenty once outside of the original place of purchase.

uk retailers that you should check out:

digital village @ www.dv247.com

and

imuso @ www.imuso.co.uk

both of those are quite reliable and ive had no trouble from them. they also dont price certain items outrageously above everyone else like dolphin often does.

stay the fu/ck away from www.turnkey.co.uk

they have a habit of repackaging b-stock, and sometimes even flat out broken equipment and selling it as new. digital screams over at the virus forum had to return his virus kc 3 or 4 times because he kept getting ones that a) didnt work b) had parts missing (!!!) and c) massive cosmetic flaws (the last one he sent back had a huuuge scratch and a massive dent in).

there have also been many other turnkey horror stories. shudders...

Those prices in the US make me wanna move there, i just don't understand.
When i bought my Virus Ti here in Belgium it arrived Oktober 13th and i payed 2488€ for it, i saw posts of people in the US that received the Ti Oktober 3rd/4th and payed 2200$ for it , thats only 2000€ !

How can this be? Germany is a neighbouring country of mine, and we have the same currency and a EU trade agreement ?

Why is the american market always in the advantage. I'm not only talking Audio Equipment here, also LCD/Plasma Tv's, PC Parts, all electronics actually - are cheaper or bigger (70"Tv + in the Us , europe max 61"Tv on several brands) than we can get here in Europe even.
