Well he's right... and someone can't just give you advice. You don't go into a party with "advice" you go in looking to have a good time and throw everyone a good party... How does your crowd take to your music... if they like it then go with it if they don't, then try something else... mix it up... try a few different styles at first to get a feel for their tastes. Think of your set as if you were telling your crowd a story, tease them, keep them interested.
But honestly man, as far as music... your the DJ dude... if you don't know what you want to play than there is really no point in doing it. A painter doensn't have to ask what to paint. You need to fall in love with and know your music, you have to have an uncontrolable need to want share the music you love, you have to be the freak whose always at the record shop looking for that new signiture tune or finding a new way to use an old one. If this is you than good luck.
