Don't even worry about it. Listen to what you love. With popularity comes hatred.

i think thats fair to say, variety and having an eclectic taste are very important.

but you push prog on people. and i think you're niave if you say you're broadening peoples tastes...

ditto man. I don't get it either.

It's just there so much out there that people find their tastes then everything else becomes tasteless, much like the attitudes you'll get to know around here. It's unfortunate, but just let shit slide off our back and don't be susceptible to it.

Discovering trance = Discovering yourself

Oh I completely agree. I love every single liveset I hear by Zabiela. I love every single one by Sasha too. I even listen to smaller names too if I can find them. I love trying new tastes, but I will admit I do listen to ASOT every single week, because I like a lot of the music Armin plays. It's a way for me to hear some new things, while further hearing new things from other artists.

i posted a similar topic a while ago and got flamed for my 'narrow scope' my uneducated choice of music and my lack of knowledge of obsucre producers. so now i've come to accept that there is a silent majority on TA who love Armin Ferry and Tiesto (and their ilk) above all else while also listening to prog/techno/breaks/whatever. It's just that it's not 'cool' to say how kickass that last ASOT or ISOS CD was because regular people buy those too. It's much cooler to publicly promote obsucre producers of off genres of trance (the more you can list, the better... all their aliases dating back to ~1965 too!) and be a closet fan. (apologies to those to whom this does not apply, I know you're out there too)

bottom line is, all the people who love tiesto and armin got flamed into oblivion (remeber the tiesto hate parade a few years ago?), so now few of them post anymore, leaving techno and prog aficionados to rule the place. but don't believe they're gone.. have a look at the TA top 100!

Well that's because nobody puts up an argument to go against their "flaming" ways. I mean, I wouldn't necessarily say these people are all prog/techno addicts, they just may not like some productions by Armin or Tiesto. At the same time, there are those who hate them just simply because they have a larger more known name. And that's the worst argument you can possibly make, but, not everybody reasons their thoughts well.

Armin= too boring and fluffy

Once u hear one set from him, u've heard em all.

Tiesto's sets are just sub standard for a top DJ. Poor transitions, same old track selection(mostly his stuff), and really doesnt do much in terms of innovation in terms of DJing.

if Armin doesnt do it for you that's fine. i just think it's wrong to criticize people for whom Armin DOES do it just because YOU don't like his style.

i agree with your asessment of tiesto's dj-ing skills, however his track selection tends to make up for it in my opinion and he has been one of the most consistent producing Dj's in terms of success.

i also think the elitists have a logical edge over the popular crowd; they tend to have a deeper understanding of EDM and have been fans longer. for these reasons they argue better and tend to win flame wars. however, none of this gives them liscence to hate on the Djs who probably got them into it too, and even less liscence to hate on people who like those Djs. they use their superior knowledge to put down newer fans so they can build their own ego and confidence which is SO pathetic it's almost funny.

(again, i'm not talking about all/just prog or techno fans im talking about elitists.. of any genre)
