So that's it I'm done with fuckign cigarettes. my throat acts up about 3 times a year cause of that shit. also in cold weather it hurtsl ike hell and is a pain in the ass to always go outside to smoke. In, NYC, it's illegal to smoke ANYWHERE inside, except like your own house/apartment. So, it's totally a pain in the ass. Also my boss is cutting my hours so i cannot afford cigarettes at 7 bucks a pack. Fuck that shit.

So, since yesterday morning, when i threw my full pack out, i'm determined more than evero quit.

Any tips on how to stay away? I'm going cold turkey so

Find someone else whos quitting and form a mini support group-like structure. Chew gum often (much more cost effective) and brush your teeth when you feel the urge for a cigarette and you have the ability.

I've quit on patches for about 2 months but then was really stressed out so i started smoking again ( and yeah i know that chemically it doesn't do shit).

How come the brushing your teeth thing? I've supplied myself with some toothpicks and straws to chew on. Is that any good?

heh, i actually decided the same thing when i woke up this morning! it's too fuckin' cold to smoke, i'm spending next week in NY and i can't let my mom know i smoke so it's a valid time to try to quit, and i've wanted to quit for a while... i threw the rest of my pack in the garbage this morning before i left for work.

Some good advice that I heard, and that I might use myself when I get around to quitting (again ) is to keep on smoking for a couple of weeks while dropping all the butts into a sealed jar of water. Anytime you feel like having a cigarette after that, just open up the jar and take a nice, deep whiff.

I've you've ever smelled an ashtray that's been left out in the rain, you should know why this would be effective...

i can't say i have many tips bc i have never smoked but i admire your effort and i wish you a lot of luck man. i hear tho that getting over the 3 day hump is the hardest part of quitting. after that, it gets Much easier.

i stopped beginning of the summer and it was great...

and i can't lie, i've been picking it up again and it sucks
but the urge is back so i fall victim to lighting up real quickly

word on the street is that welbutrin helps with the urges and in time (say month or two) its easier to stop taking the pills. a co-worker of mine has done so successfully.

I'm also in the process of quitting, and what worked for me most was changing my surroundings. I know that's situational (like moving) but ciggies are mostly a habit/routine for me, so when I came up to CT for school (I've never been here before) there was nothing to really remind me of ciggies... It's definitely harder when I go back to DC since everything reminds me of ciggies, but since the majority of my time is spent up here, it's not too hard. Driving my car is still kinda hard, but I just try to focus on the music ... and uh, the road.
