Got my turntables and mixer about 6 weeks ago, and it was only a day or so before I'd got the beatmatching sorted out cos I used BPM studio to teach myself that for about 10 months beforehand.
I got a massive buzz from picking it up so quick and that sort of pushed me forwards and helped, I was starting to put together some fairly decent mixes after only 3 weeks.
This week it's as though I'm a novice again - it's like having DJ's block. In the past I've been aware that my mood affects how I mix DRAMATICALLY! I'm sure you all know what I mean, you're in a good mood, you start to mix and you pull off some pretty decent stuff and it just escalates from there, although this week I'm feeling really bored.
Maybe this is something to do with it? Anybody else get the same problem?
Hopefully

Yeah, its okay, every now and again I do shit sets, fingers slip on eqs, accidently knock x-fader, trainwrecks, altering the speed of the record the wrong way during a mix. It happens every now and again, the art is the recovery

think about something else when the mixing, you should try this once (if you're thinking about any mistake 3 tracks earlier, it wont make you a lot happier ). I made a very good mix when I just had a photo of a good girlfriend of mine in bikini , so just relax!! Just DO mixing, don't think about it (that's why mixing for crowds is easier then mixing at your sleeping room, there's a crowd going wild in front of you)
Good luck, Maarten
