Well, first look which outputs your mixer has. Most mixers have other outputs next to the master. If your mixer has a record out, use it. This output is independant from the position of your master fader (so you set the level once in your comp, and you shouldn't chang it anymore). Normally this output will be RCA (red and white connector).

The output works at line level, so you'll have to connect it to a line input of your soundcard. Dunno what connector they use on the LiveDrive, but it's likely to be a minijack. So just get an adaptor cable from RCA to minijack and connect your mixer output to the line input of your soundcard.

sup
goto radio shack, they have cables that are rca(red and white) and 3.5mm minijack on the other end..
do you want your computer to be an input? or you want to output to your computer?

Okay, but what software do you use to capture the output from the sound card into a .WAV file?

I tried using Windows' Sound Recorder but it sucks, has a time limit of like 30 sec.

Of course there are some shareware programs but they won't let you record a big liveset (e.g. 70 min.) unless you pay like $30.

Here are some things for us to explore

FreeView
The free version lets you capture the output and export to WAV (I think). I didn't see anything about time limits, so that's good. Note: the free version doesn't work with Win2000, only 95/98/ME, I think.

Total Recorder
It installs a pseudo-driver that captures output from the sound card to a WAV. BUT, it SUCKS, because the free version only lets you record up to 40 sec. I think. Then you gotta pay like $20 so I do NOT recommend this.

I remember there was a great and simple program, with NO time limits, to capture the output into a WAV. And it was free. If I find it I'll let you know.

Sound Forge 5.0 is good to record with (works with winxp too), You can download a 50 day trial for free, but gotta buy the full version. Cool edit Pro is great (havnt tried it with xp yet).. I think there's one called "Pro Tools Free".. which of course is free, I've used that on an imac, and it worked nicely. You can also record in Easy CD Creator 5.0 (which I strongly discourage, if ur running xp. I installed it and my cd drivers went missing; a known problem). Also, if u want the best quality sound, get gold plated rca's, and a gold plated rca>mini adapter. just some tips.

well i use GOLDWAVE ... it uses less ram so your recording wont jump around... i find soundforge to have that problem(when i record, half way or 3/4 into the mix, the program glitches) i hear cool edit is good... but anyways.. if anyone wants sound forge or gold wave or cool edit, just download the demo at their site and then go to www.cracks.am to download the crack(serial/keygenerator) for these programs. i could just send these programs(all full) to u all but i think that would be too much of a pain in the ass for me to SEND them to you all so just get the crack. ... why pay money when you can get them for free =)
