Hi, I think I'm not the only one with this problem... but not much of my friends know about Trance. So sometimes it's hard to convince some people to go to a Trance party with me. (I even miss a lot of events because I don't want to go alone...)

But if you would like to introduce Trance to someone, how would you do it? What song would be the first one you'd let them hear? How would you compare Trance to styles 'they' know? etc. etc.

i know what you mean, most of my friends will refuse to listen to trance music just b/c of the stereotype they attach to it

just tell them there'll be hot babes at the party to get them to go

that's why you have your regular friends and your edm friends. the edm friends you have to go out and make by going to shows alone and being friendly... i don't understand why soooo many people have a problem with seeing a dj by themselves. i hear this all the time. if you love the music enough, then....?? what's the problem???

Really though, I (and I presume most of you, since most of you are asking how to introduce others into the music) found it yourself. It's hard to break a stereotype. If they can't find out about a certain genre on their own and have to be force fed music, it probably means they just don't like it.

Throw on a couple records every now and then, see what happens. If they don't like it, don't keep prodding at them about it like you're trying to force some ideology down their throats.

My girlfriend from High school actually asked me to send her a couple of Trance cds cause she wanted to know why I like it so much.

So I first grabbed a few cds that were my personal favorites. Then I carefully selected a couple that had tracks with both vocals and non vocals on them.

I wanted her to hear and feel the music, yet I wanted her to feel comfortable by hearing vocals, since that is what she is most comfortable with when listening to music.

What I decided on was a couple of Gabriel & Dresden live mixes. I sent her an oldie but goodie, there Essentail Mix from 2003 and one that I am currently in love with a live mix from Episode 3 in SF.

I feel G & D do a great job of giving their listeners pure trance, yet with some great vocal tracks that most people can relate to.

You might have gotten her into trance if you had picked a dj that actually spun trance.

G&D have done some trance-ish tracks, but their sets are more often than not prog/mc-prog.

What's the fucking obsession with wanting to make people listen to the music you listen to? You wouldn't be too happy if someone tried to force you to listen to Reba McEntire or go to a Clint Black concert.

exactly.

I don't really mind if someone throws on a record of country every now and then and asks if I like it, but if they start giving me mix cds of random tracks and continually try to push it on me I may think about getting judicial intervention.

Listen to what you want. If they don't like it, oh well.

BTW, it worked, she is now more accepting to listen to more trance artists.
