Create an FX channel with a metalizer plugin. MAke sure that the effect is 100% wet for any send effects.

Now add this fx channel as a send on the audio channel with the sound you wish to make metalic.

Set the send level to 0 and click the W to Write enable automation on the audio channel. This will record any adhustments you make on the faders, levels, pan, effects etc...

Set the play marker to the start of the sound sample and click play.

As the sample starts, slowly and gradually increase the send level until you reach the end of the sample.

Next unclick the W to disable the write automation and this time click the R button to read enable automation on the audio channel.
This will repeat/playback the automation that you just recorded.

I find it is alot easier and more precise if you open up the automation track for the audio channel and adjust the automation for effects/faders etc from there.
