Actually, female judges would be MORE LENIENT on her. Only a woman knows what a battered and manipulated wife could go through. However, we do have the killer in jail for life, Paul Bernardo. She was not imprisoned for killing the girls, but her role in the killing of girls. This is fact. If it wasn't for her coming forward to the police, the scarborough killer and the killer of the girls may not have ever been cought. I agree it was 'a deal with the devil', but it's common practice to use a smaller fish in order to get the biggest one, otherwise there wouldn't be such thing as police informants.
But don't get me wrong, I feel extremely sorry for the French and Mahaffy families, their loss is extremely saddening.
But the media are milking this story for all it's got. It gets ratings, and sells more commercials. Coles notes isn't as good as reading the book.

Being from St. Catharines, my hometown is forever scarred because of this couple. What they did was inexplicably wrong, no one is going to argue that. No one is going to deny Karla's involvement in it either. The extent of her "guilt" is another question altogether.
The Canadian justice system is flawed yes, this isn't any huge news development by far. It's been the undercurrent for many many years of legal proceedings. Karla Homolka is certainly not the only case where people have stepped back and said, "There's something wrong here." Does anyone remember Guy Paul Morin?
I'm sure Karla will have a hand worse than life-time imprisonment dealt to her. After all, 3 meals a day and a warm bed to sleep in doesn't really strike me as "punishment."
And as reiterated many times throughout this thread, I feel desperately sorry for the French and Mahaffy families. No one can know pain like theirs.
