Talking into Microphones!! Bah!

So I have my third gig ever (2nd more major) and I'm opening for some well-known dj's in the area.

I talk to the owner and he says there will be a mic and also I will be control the volume level of the congas. (Yes, someone there will be playing congas) Now the main DJ who was supposed to come and who I was originally supposed to open for (this guy opend for TIESTO and other big names!!) couldn't make it for tomorrow, so these other well-known dj's will replace him.

Still, I'm afraid I'm going to have to give the news over the mic (I hope not, let the owner do it)

I just don't want to talk into that MIC!! My last gig had no mic. I mean I never talk into mics, I don't want to talk to close to the mic and it sounds muffled or some shit.

Bah! I don't like mics. BTW my dj career is still blossoming as this is only my 2nd (more major) gig. Both times are at the same place, meaning tomorrow I'll be playing where I first played in my life. It's a restaurant/lounge, so I can't really call myself a club DJ.

Back on topic.. who else hates mics?Any advice incase I have to talk

Bah! Damn Mics.

I work on a register in a supermarket, love the mic!
"Service 20 to register 5 please!"

Just speak loudly into the thing and you will be alright, if public speaking isnt your thing then just picture everyone in there underwear (ok so iv never done this but iv heard it millions of times) if there are hot chicks then dont get to excited when you do it.

Rehearse what you're going to say in your mind, speak loudly, *directly* into the mic, and if you don't have an "MC voice" already worked out, just speak in your normal voice.

Most importantly, finish your sentences, no matter how bad it is. It sounds better to say "I hope you all have a banging up time" than "I hope you all have...uh..." (Also why it's so important to rehearse what you want to say beforehand.)

That's the thing, I'm just the warm up DJ, so I don't want to say, EVERYBODY SHAKE YOUR BODY!!! or something like that, when clearly I'm WARMING them up... and they are still getting 'lubricated', you know what I mean?

BAH!!!!

if u really are scared, just be short and conservative.

By that i mean, don't say too much, and reflect the emotion of the crowd. If they seem happy excited, and ready to go, then ur voice should reflect that. if their relaxed and chilled, then again, ur voice should reflect that.
^ that's the safe way to go, but u won't get the crowd to change their attitudes/feelines. You'll need ur music to do that.
