cubase drummloop question

Hi..
i'm new to production so please be easy on me ...lol.is creating a drumloop in one channel is the correct and pro way of doing things? or should the best way is to separate the kicks, snares, hh, etc into different channels in cubase?

i also want to know how to add more power to my drums?...so far i'm using absynth V1.0 and dont have anything else.

would i have to use compression in the cubase mixer? and if i make my drumloop in one channel would compression affect all my percussion?

soz bout all the questions.

thanks in advance 8-D

Well, my preffered way of doing things is to use a sampler/synth with several output (I use Battery 2 and have been experimenting with DR-008).
I route all the kicks to mono output 1, all hihats to stereo output 1, all snares and percussion to stereo output 2 and effects and crash cymbals to mono output 2.

Since you only have absynth (a great synth btw) you might want to have muliple instances of it, at least one for the kick so that you can compress it seperately. But I wouldn't suggest synthesizing all drum sounds, because if you have one instance of absynth for ecery perc sound in your track, you'll quickly run out of CPU power. Get yourself a freeware VST sampler, check out www.kvr-vst.com for loads of free vst effects and instruments. Then you should be able to find a lot of decent drum samples online. Using sampled percussion will save you alot of CPU power so you can have more synthesizers for bass and lead

When i used to use the stupid LM-7 I would lay out my drums on more than one midi track and then I'd bounce em down to audio, but now I use Battery2, so I can route each hit to an independent channel in Cubase.

You definitely need to use compression on your drums. You're right if you have them all on one channel then the compression will effect that whole channel.

Using any sort of drum loop whatsoever isn't really the "pro" way of doing things. Sequencing them yourself would be a good start.

Generally, all the drum except for the kick will *eventually* end up in the same group and are usually compressed together - the kick is usually compressed with the bassline(s).

Group different types of drums (or any other instruments) together if you plan on doing something with them as a group. It's that simple.
