Parents Accused Of Giving 3-Month-Old Fatal Dose Of Alcohol
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Police are looking for the parents of a 3-month-old girl who died after they allegedly gave her fatal doses of alcohol.
Mardala Derival and Mackenson Dantus are wanted for aggravated manslaughter in connection with the death of their daughter on Valentine's Day 2004.
Police and emergency personnel found the child dead after Dantus, 25, called 911 to report that his daughter was unresponsive.
An autopsy revealed that the baby died from liver disease and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.47 -- almost five times above the legal limit for operating a motor vehicle in the state.
"They mixed water, vodka, sugar and salt in the bottle," Fort Lauderdale Police Detective Katherine Collins said.
Collins said the mixture was 13 percent alcohol.
Derival and Dantus allegedly served the baby a cocktail to keep her from crying.
Derival, 22, is described as being 4 feet 11 inches tall with black hair and brown eyes. Police said she speaks little English.
Dantus is described as 6 feet tall with black hair and brown eyes. Police said he has a thick Creole accent.
"We believe that they're in the area -- Broward, (Miami-)Dade County -- and we're hoping that someone who knows them will come forward and turn them in so they can be brought to justice for this crime," Collins said.
Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Derival or Dantus is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
