dont buy mp3s from ID&T's webshop!!!

i did it and a few days later theres a $90+ transaction made on my credit card account....uggh ******s...thankfully my card is now cancelled and the money was credited back to me!

if online stores are going to receive really private information like that, cant they encrypt the information properly first?

ID&T's MP3 service is http://www.dance-tunes.com - so I suspect you're talking about Dance-Tunes.com.

Questions:

1. Are you 100% sure that the charge made to your card was related to the transaction with ID&T? If 100% sure, how so?

2. Have you contacted ID&T to discuss this? What was their response?

i am 99.99% sure it was from there because it was the only place i used my credit card that did not have an security encryption on the page you fill your card details out on (this is represented by a tiny gold lock icon in the bottom of your browser window)...yeah yeah i know, i should have known better, i guess you gotta learn your lesson the hard way.

i will be contacting Dance-Tunes shortly about this.

I really doubt ID-T would use a non-ssl form to capture credit card information.

Infact, this is the form you filled:

And it _is_ secured. You just didn't see the lock because of their use of frames.

Have you used your credit card in any off-line transactions in the last month? Have you gone out to dinner lately and paid via credit card? Do you shred all your receipts? Is your card kept on your person or under lock and key at all times?

Even without SSL encryption (the little lock) - it is highly unlikely that someone packet sniffed your credit card information from a browser data session.

Card companies all say that the internet is the SAFEST way to shop with a credit card. The internet is the most secure way of transacting. Offline transactions (where there is a transfer of card, carbon copies, receipt copies, etc) is the source most all card fraud.

It might be prudent to investigate more before issuing a broad warning.

i can promise you that the page was not secured, this is because i was keeping an eye on my account very carefully ever since the incident....and i am probably one of the most careful people with my credit card....

the illegal purchase was for www.match.com apparently...$90 too then a credit of $88....3 days ago...i have NEVER paid for a dating service in my life...

Two things:

1) Re-read what I wrote about the site being "secure". Franky it doesn't really matter if it's secure or not - fact is that there is so much data, moving so many places it is not likely that someone detected and then extracted your card number from the transaction.

2) Have you used your card "offline" in the last 2 months? If you have, then your card has left your hands (and thefore has not been secure). If you use your card in person - you give it to the teller, waiter, taxi cab driver, sales-person, etc. Who knows what they do with the actual card, the carbon or the receipt. This is where most fraud happens.

What is this "offline" world you speak of? There is no spoon.
