Read This! Orgin of the term "dub"

Reggae music re-recorded without the vocals, created for the crowd to sing the vocals became known as a "dub".

I was listening to the Music Choice dance channel on my cable and came across this fact. Just thought I would share this this with everyone, I found it interesting.

Yup, more or less instrumental reggae. I'm no history buff, but I remember reading somewhere that dub was invented when Osbourne Ruddock (aka King Tubby) left the vocals out of one the dubplates he was going to use for his soundsystem. Then he added lots of reverb, delay and echo and stuff to the sounds that were left over, which is what you can hear on the records of say, Lee 'Scratch' Perry and Mad Professor (who did a remix/dub album of Massive Attack - Protection).

Here's a good example of what it sounds like: http://www.juno.co.uk/products/1826...ht=King%20Tubby

Interesting, thanks for filling in with a little more in-depth history.

Ah, found the site where I read it. You can download some free and legal dub tunes here, too: http://www.epitonic.com/genres/dub.html
