Canada bans the things you enjoy most

I like the other thread about tiesto banned so lets try a few more for the sake of dicussion:

1) Alcohol banned in public to stop 2nd hand alcohol deaths:

Ontario announced it will ban alcohol in all public places in a bid to cut down on drinking and driving. Parliament is using the same precendent as they did 10 years ago when they banned smoking citing the prevention of harm to 3rd party bystanders. This means that clubs will be allowed to open but must serve non alcholic drinks. Alcohol will still be legal to sell however as the government has no intention of taking away an important source of tax revenue.

2) Pet ownership outlawed

Dec 15 2015: The city of toronto has passed a bylaw yesterday banning what few remaining species of dogs that were still allowed thus officially banning any form of dog ownership. City council wants to make sure that no one suffers the bite of a stray animal. Property owners also cite the pollution and inconvenience of having to step over dog droppings in the park. Public opposition is very low because over the years as tighter restrictions were passed, fewer people started to own pets. Cats have also been banned because as George Mamollotti suggested "they are just annoying and they smell bad"

3) July 23 2011 City council has just passed a bylaw banning the use of outdoor bbqs. Citing increased air pollution, the use of outdoor bbqs will now be banned within city limits. In an unrelated news item, the city just turned down yet another proposal for subway expansion in the face of reports of increased urban pollution due to traffic congestion.

4) Canada has banned non marital sex:

In a bid to decreased the STD epidemic in Canada, the government has officially banned extra marital sex. The feds have cited precedent used in banning junk food and smoking many years before. "it just puts undue strain on our social health care system" said the prime minister

Hypothetical today maybe. But just think about the laws we have now. No one 20 years ago would have ever dreamed of such laws and most probably would have fought them. Sadly the idea today is "well im not a smoker, im not a pitbull owner and im not a junk food eater so why should i care?

You should care because the same methods will be used to ban your idea of enjoyment one day in the future

I know that, but they are controlled public spaces.

Ever tried to enter those areas without being looked by a security guard?

yeah, licenced events in public spaces are allowed to serve, but you can't just drink in the street.

the events we are talking about occur in the streets in montreal....

St-Patricks day is one day where law enforcement look the other way.

liberty vs democracy.

Normally I'd side with liberty except when the liberty to own a pitbul eats my face.

In other (un)related events as soon as the smoking ban went into effect my athletics increased considerably.
I wouldn't mind breaking the law to sleep around before marrage if I knew that they were all std free b/c of new legislation.
I'll protest when they cross my line. Or a line I feel is getting close to my line. But as long as they are still doing things that generally improve my life I'm still going to keep using my vote to support them.
