Compressor trick, how to do it?

Hey all,

I was wondering if there was any way to have a compressor have effect on everything but the kick, but still have the compressor react to the kick.

kind regards,

Charlie Darwin

Music is as universal to people as breathing. We've probably been at it since before we even started talking. Immaging two cavemen smashing away at a peace of flint to make a spearhead. It wouldn't take long for them to learn te synchronise the sound. And there you have it, the words first percussive band.

Music has survived wars, famines, the plague and many other things and has evolved with man across many cultures. Dance music is just the next step in the evolutionary chain. My guess is that it will probably be with us untill we are extinced.

That's probably what I mean but i'v never heard the therm so I can't say. The effect i'm trying to get is what you hear quite often hear when a phat supersaw pad seems to be crushed by the kick. I know it's possible with a gate 4/4 with short attack and long decay. But i'v tried it and it isn't what I want.

I'v put a kick and pad+lead through a strong 0 attack comp together before with great results, but the kick starts to klick.

any suggestions?

And what exactly was he supposed to search for? He didn't know the term side chaining...so how the fuck else is he supposed to get information on it?

Heh. For exactly this reason, there's a sticky sidechaining tutorial in trance.nu:s production forum.

A search for "kick compress", "kick compression" or "kick compressor" would have turned up several results about side-chained compression.

Besides, it irritates me to no end how so many people want to create this horribly lame and annoying effect.

too bad the ones whom aren't as succesfull as the gay producer mentioned above are complaining the most.

Besides the fact that the topic starter didn't even ask for an opinion.

As others need to use the search, maybe more adolescent persons could refrain from replying to topic # 1001 about the same subject. You guys aren't obligated to reply to topics you find annoying you know. flame all you want, no reply in this topic will come from my side.

Oh that's great... it's the good ole' "famous/successful people are always right" argument! Let's all entrust our lives to movie stars because they know how things really get done!

No, but he asked a very common question that could have been avoided with a search.
