Yamaha PSR range are excellent for a basic midi keyboard. Just make sure you buy one with touch sensitive keys and at least 5 octaves (very important).

I know for synth sounds they suck, but for the price of some of them you can't complain. I picked a Yamaha PSR-E303 for £120 brand new. It's excellent for learning chords etc as it as a fully-featured chord database. GM/XG sounds are excellent too.

Yamaha PSR-E303

This is lowest priced Yamaha PSR with Touch Sensitive keys and GM/XG midi compatibility...and B4 any one starts laughing....I use a JP8000 for synth sounds

Do you even need a MIDI keyboard? If it weren't for my live-performance piano recordings I wouldn't have needed one. You might should save your money until you have enough for a real piece of hardware.

You not one of those piano players that plays piano for senior citzen's in homes/hotels pretending to play piano with pre-recorded midi songs

No you don't need a midi keyboard for live performances, but you do need a midi keyboard for computer/studio work.

Check out the novation site, they've got some cool stuff

(LINK). Korg also has a nice looking synth but probably over your budget. M-audio has got some keyboards too

I do piano recordings using Kontakt as my sampler with Giga's 1gb grand piano. This is what I meant. If you want to mess around with a filtered pluck in z3ta you don't need a 70+ key keyboard, seeing as you can just use the piano roll.

Seriously, just save up for a synth that doubles as a MIDI controller.
