The Darkone - These Dark Ages [Dark/Melodic/Trance,4:06, Sample, 112kbps]

Here is my newest done track.
It's going for my album as well.

It's a bit original with the sidechained strings I hope.

Nope.

I'll check it out shortly anyway, though.

Commenting as I listen...
good percussion, nice groove, almost prog like.
The elements sit well in the mix. Good job on mastering. Maybe the snare is a little sharp after 1:00. try to play a reversed sound 1/16 before the snare at a lower volume.
The sidechained strings are nice, but you are not really the first who used them.
nice FX in the midsection!
The dark flanged pads starting at 2:58 are not so well contributing to the rest of the tune. I dont know what it is, but I'd try to change the gate interval or something like that.
In the end, I was hoping for some kind of climax, but in fact, I didnt find the last part too interesting, maybe it needs some extra action there, maybe some variation in the string theme.

Anyway, what stands out really well to me is your mastering. And a good job with the percs. Well done, keep it up!

I meant original by the progression and stuff.
The sidechain isn't that original I know.
Maybe I'll replace the gated lead with something more interesting and about the climex, you have a sample

I'll listen to your new tracks soon.

p.s.
I haven't seen you for a while,
what about our collab?

listening..

didnt really like the first part up to about a minute.. some little parts of it i liked.

sidechained strings come in- they work nicely but seem a bit repetetive up to the 2;04 area. now the whole track sounds a lot nicer.

break is nice but now the strings arent being chained they sound a bit too softwarish. maybe use a few more layers in vocal synth sounds to add more emotion?

beat back. i like the vibe and it is truly dark sounding. i like the percussion, clap etc. and the fred baker/fuego caliente snare works well.

while listening i got the feeling you have a similar ear for melodies to me. check out my 'drunken track' on this forum and give me a review if you have time

rich

ok listening:
wow ... strong perc.. i like it.. nice chillin stuff
sine bells are a bit cheesy, add some more reverb /delay to it. bassline is ok. flanged open hat is ok, but think it s better without the flanger, same for the snare. strings are nice.. nice compression. leadsynths are ok, not really my taste anyway you did a good job mate

cheers
Renco

not bad, not really my taste. too tired to comment on production quality, but some of what renco says ring true to my tired ears. some elements are over the top, some of the effects are nice, some again, are a bit much. overall, chilled. =)

nice percussion and nice pads shit.. youve gotta do something about that volume increase :S thats weird and not in a good way weird !
pads are nice, used the filters good on the leading synth
good mood switch around 2:12 I like how the melody changes..
the breakbeat is what I dont like so much.. you shouldnt use the mainkick as a breakbeat there.. you'd take a war drum or a tom or something then with a bit reverb.. fits the breakstyle better I think.. give it a try but keep in mind its just imo
would like to hear your progress anytime man !
keep it up

Well, since you were so "critial of my track," I'll return such a gracious favor with my own critique of your track.

This sounds so commercial, just like so many other tracks out there. There's no feeling to it, just the same repetitous sounds over and over and over again.

I give you a 1/10 for the effort. Maybe be you can do a better job next time. I don't like this at all. Try to bemore original next time. I don't think this represents the current sound, and I've listened to many of the the so called current tracks. This sounds kind of old-school. Lucky I like old school. And it's kind of short. You shouldn't fade out at the end.

Your breakbeat is a little...boring to fit the style you're creating. Everything is the same volume...there's no energy to the track really. A deeper, more pumping bassline could do that. Sound wise the percs and all that are pretty good. Musically, it could use some work. Dynamics are always key in composing.
