question about making vocal trance

just wondering..
wen a vocal trance tune is to be made, is it a dj that goes to a vocalist to ask them to make a song for them and the dj then adds their beat to it. or is it the vocalist that goes to the dj and says "hey i want a trance beat to this song i made, can u add it in for me?"

wut do u think? both situations happen? or..

For some reason I think the DJ goes to the singer, and tells them what to sing.

yes discussions on both ends happen but mostly i wud say its the dj that goes to vocalist. like Armin going to Nadia Ali (Iio) and asking her to do vocals on Who's Watching. track written and produced by Armin. in same aspect PvD is currently working on something with Nelly Furtado. Oh and Armin also is looking to do work with Coldplay. Ferry asked Simon from Duran Duran to do vocals on Fire. I personally doubt that any of those vocalists would go to the dj and ask for a trance or house or jungle or w0teva kinda beat to be made.

Now if you get into vocalists like Jes Briden Jan jhonstson Ray Wilson and others then yes very possible its the vocalist that goes to the dj. Jan has done a few tracks with Tiesto that were written by her but produced in help with Tiesto and so it goes on like that.I am really curious to see how this whole Armin & Coldplay plus PvD and Nelly Furtado thing works out.

what i've seen done is usually the dj finds a singer and they work on lyrics together..or the dj finds the singer with lyrics already made

if it was the other way around the credit would go to the singer (aka madonna "hung up" with stuart price)

Uh... it's not made by DJs period, it's made by producers. Seriously, don't confuse people who play records with people who create music. And it's not either-or; vocalists look for good producers and producers look for good vocalists.

Sometimes in the case of a vocalist (who might be known for pop music) she, her producer or label, or all of them, make a deal with other producers to do remixes of her song. Usually they want house remixes but sometimes they want trance. Then they make a release of vinyl or a CD single with several different mixes.

I don't know how they figure out what the pay will be. From what I've read, it could be a flat fee or "points" or percentages related to the sales.

Some DJs may be producers, but if they're remixing a track they are producing, not playing records.

It just irks me when people confuse the two - in fact I think the lack of understanding of music production is a huge contributing factor to DJ worship. Some people actually believe that the DJs are making these tracks or remixes, or just haven't thought about it in enough detail to realize that their craft doesn't extend that far. DJing is an art in and of itself, I'm not questioning that, but *tons* of DJs (especially trance DJs) in actuality don't do shit - they buy records, play records, and don't really put much more thought or effort into the process.
