Now ive always loved Music period but Trance Music is my favorite and all of the above are what i mostly listen to (Techno,House,Trip-Hop, ect)

I hate to admit it but i almost know nothing about being a DJ and that is probably one of the biggest dreams i have....well at least becoming a small one or knowing how to create music. I need to know what i need (Equipment) to start out and any imformation i can get such as pointers, advice, or just anything that would be helpful. Thank you

Creating music has nothing to do with DJing.

Creation is production.

DJing means that you have two turntables, a mixer, monitors (speakers) and you play and mix your vinyl

Producing means you get behind the boards and you start experimenting. I think you should get Fruity Loops if you are more interested in creating music than DJing and playing the music.

Fruity Loops is a very simple program that you use on your computer to produce music. It's very limited and you won't create any BT or Sasha type of stuff with it. But it can be fun, and its definitely a good place to be creative without spending much money.

However, if you really want to get into production.. then make a quick trip to your local music store and buy yourself a Korg Synth, mixers, monitors, drum machine, maybe Oxygen synth to use as a cheaper MIDI input, get a Macintosh CPU, shit loads of ram, get 2 other jobs to support your habit, buy more hardware, more more more. That's how it is.

is that all Korg stuff or just the korg synth and do you have an estimate on how much all of this shits gonna cost lol

It doesn't all have to be from Korg. Some say Korg sucks for trance/house and is better for hip-hop. But this is not necessarily true. However, one synth can cost anywhere from 400 dollars to couple of grand. You're looking at thousands of dollars if you really wanna get into it and create a home studio. I recommend buying some quality used stuff at your music store. They always have suff that people sell back.

P.S. Talk tot he guys in the DJing/Production section of these forums. They know way more than me, they may be able to direct you better.

first off being a DJ or producing music gets very EXPENSIVE very easily very quickly - Its pretty hard and pretty time consuming

ask the DJ Booth if youre interested in spinning music and if you wanna make music check out the production forum

whatever you do though, be sure to read through the threads already there for any information you may need before you go posting the millionth thread asking if X (
chances are those questions have already been answered 20 diff times in 30 diff posts

No. Don't do it until you absolutely know you want to do it and know what to do with the equipment. People go out and buy the fanciest stuff they can get, spend masses of money to them and toy around with them for a while. Then they realise making music isn't actually as easy and fun as they thought and slowly give up and let the equipment collect dust in one corner. I've seen it happen so many times - not just in music but other hobbies too.

I say get some software and learn the basics. When you've mastered them and are sure there's absolutely no more juice you can squeeze out of them then move to hardware.

You don't need any equipment to start. Search for Traktor or a similar DJ application for your PC. It features everything you'd have with a set of decks and mixer and for a fraction of the cost. You can mix your mp3's.

As for production, you can pick up FL Studio for around £70 (I think) which features pretty much everything you need. It is capable of producing commercial tracks with the right person using it, many recommend it to start. It is also compatible with VST intruments, which basically means you can download and use any number of Software Synthesisers, many decent ones of which are freely downloadable. Samples (ie. percussion) are also hugely easy to get for free from a number of sites/locations.

There are hoards of tutorials and the like to explain things to you all over the net and you may find the production board on TA to be agood place to start. Most of all though, fiddling with these things and spending the time to teach yourself will always prove to be the best method.

In summary though, you really don't need to break the bank - provided you have a PC of course.

thank you guys...if you have anything else keep me posted ...oh and buy the way since i live in the states can i still get FL or whatever...or should i just buy it off the comp?

Oh and one more thing..if any of you guys have done either the Djing or the Production...i mean does it get easier and easier as you practice or i mean is just the begining hard or what is the case?

There are two softwares that I use:
Propellerheads Reason, very nice program
and Propellerheads Rebirth, a good loop editor.

If you rather DJ, then get tables/cd players and a mixer. Producing is usually harder and requires more formal music training. DJing imo is more experince based and more instinct than producing. And it's more fun
