the cdj-200

I googled the cdj-200 and noticed that it plays mp3's. Does the cdj-200 also play wav files?

Also, when I buy a cd single what file format does the file come in when you try and rip it off of the cd? I'm talking about some classic cd's that arent available for digital download.

CDJ 200 plays CBR mp3s (constant Bit rate mp3s) as well as .wav formats. If you buy a single CD (on an actuall CD) it comes in .wav format and of course will work.

As for digital downloads they come in a variety of CBR mp3 formats but mostly 320 kbps which is fine for DJing (anything lower is starting to get iffy realy fast). Meaning dont buy/play anything lower than 320, for quality reasons.

As a note the CDJ 200 doesnt play VBR mp3 (varbial Bit rate mp3s). Well it does play them but thats it. You cant mix with them or anytihng.

Does the quality of a VBR mp3 is better than a 192k/s mp3?

just curious

It depends on what the overall range the VBR mp3 is encode in. Meaning if it is encode lower than 192 then yes. But in order to play VBR mp3s on your CDJ 200 you need to re-encode them into either .wav or CBR.

Note that re-encoding into a higher format does not increase teh sound quality. That is, your starting sound source is the highest quality you can achieve. So re-encoding a 192 mp3 into wav (or 320) will not make it sound worse. I am not sure on the details, but Im sure you can google sites for more info.

If you were to spin to a crowd on a large system nothing lower than 320 mp3 should be used, due to quality concerns.

does the cdj-200 really play wav FILES? i doubt it. it plays cd-audio naturally, which is not the same as a wav file, although it's the same quality. if you rip the cd to your computer you're gonna have to convert it to wav, you can't just directly copy it in windows explorer for example, like you could if the tunes on the cd would be wav or mp3 files.

Ic what your saying.

Yeah there is a slight difference. There is another file format that commerical CDs and such come in called .cda. These files must be converted into .wav to be ripped onto your computer. .CDA files are a pointer in that they tell where the files on the commerical CDs are, in a sense. CDA files have no real information. Read here for basic information/understanding.

As far as the CDJ 200 goes, I dunno if it plays .wav or if you need to convert .wav into CDA first. Usually I just pop the files into nero and it auto converts them into CDA and boom Im done, hassle free.

errr very confused now....

so if i buy a cd...and then convert the tracks to .wav files onto my computer...and then burn the .wav files onto a CD-RW will it play?

surely it will play .wav files as you can digitally download tracks in wav format now.

If you buy a commerical CD, there is absoulutly no reason to convert the files. Just pop it in the CDJ and your set. Its common sense for the CDJ to play commercial CDs, non?

basicly all you need to do is use a CD burning program (like nero) to make an audio CD. When DJing use mp3s that are in CBR rates of 320 or higher (this includes .wavs) to insure good quality music.

You can purchas music from these sites:
www.beatport.com
www.audiojelly.com

or found in this thread:
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...&threadid=65343

Sorry for the confusion, hope this helps. Next time use the search since this was a very simple and straightforward answer that Im sure was already answerd.

Sigh. Use the Search.

Depends how much money you are willing to spend and what you want to do.

Main difference is the 800 has a touch sensitive platter for vinyl emulation, and the 200 doesnt.

If you are new to DJing and all you spin is trance and the like, and dont want to spend a ton on equipment but still want quality stuff, get the CDJ 200. Or possibly check out some of the denon stuff.

don't burn anything as wav or mp3 files, burn them as audio. you can burn pretty much anything you can listen to as audio on a cd. mp3, wav, wma, ogg, etc. etc. the burning program converts the files to audio and burns them on the cd as audio. and every cd-player plays audio cds. if your burning program can't do this, then you should use some other program to convert the files to wav and then burn them as audio. i've never heard of a program that can't burn an audio cd from wav files at least.
