Austin parties

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum. I love trance music and want to get into deejaying. Anyone in Austin dabble? I would love to meet some local deejays that I can compare notes with and of course rave. btw I'm getting a pair of CDJ200s and a JDM300 as my first kit.

Cheers,
Errol

Your topic is "Austin parties" but your post is about learning to DJ. Okay.

Hmm...I dunno any Austin locals that post here..with the exception of Lance. As far as comparing notes go if you have any questions, feel free. As far as raving goes...you might have to ask Dirk about that one. You will never find a bigger raver..than Dirk W.

As far as any advice I could offer.. just stick with it, keep practicing, and always look for ways to improve your sound. Don't expect anything to happen overnight..many who try to be DJs get discouraged like that and usually give up in a year or two. If your heart is truly in it, you'll find a way to make shit happen.

here's a book I recommend for starters:

the book is no joke btw..lots of good insights, easy to read. Dave knows about this one I think..

I'm reading that book. It's a good read and very informative.

Thanks Matt.

LOL

Val Kilmer is right, the book is really good and cured my boredom in Cincinnati not too long ago. Its a definite read if you're just starting out.

Rave should also never be used as a verb and none of us here go to said raves. We've all grown up and go to nice, respectable clubs where good DJs play some great music on great sound systems.

Welcome to the forum and ask us any questions you have.

thanks for the book advice. i will order that today. any austin djs from the forum spinning that i can go watch? i really dont know any clubs that play trance in austin. element used to play electronic music but all they play now is hip hop.
also i know almost every dj has started on vinyl but i have no interest in using vinyl. they are difficult to handle and difficult to preserve well. will i not be taken seriously if all i spin is cds and mp3s?
thanks for all of the input guys.

p.s yeah i know the title of the thread was a little deceptive, i thought more people would read it that way

I have mad respect for anyone that plays what they love, regardless of medium used. You'll be fine as long as you don't act like you're big sh*t...always stay humble and play what moves you.

Definitely keep it locked here for party info and also go to www.teknosounds.com for info on your local scene. You'll find something you like, especially for NYE.

Neither of us are from Austin, but I promise you will hear some good music. Both of us have opened for various headliners throughout the year.

The medium you use is completely irrelevant to getting a dancefloor jumping. Period.

I use CDs because its more affordable for me to purchase WAVs from beatport.com. They have most of the tracks I'm in the market for, and they are the master WAVs from the studio, so there is no degradation in the audio as you would find in MP3s. I would HIGHLY recommend you stay away from using MP3s encoded below 320 unless you are practicing or, playing at a house party, or a second room in a club where it wont matter much.

The only artists I do not take seriously, are the ones who act like they are bigshots and cannot mix worth a goddamn. Do what you love, stick with it, and don't let nothing or no one discourage you.
