your club year in review...

so what dj's did you see this year? what was your favorite show? who will you not see again? and generally anything else you wanna say about this year that's related to your club experiences...gonna take me a while to type mine up so i'll post it in a bit

i saw...

Steve Porter
Sasha
James Zabiela
Nick Warren & Jody Wisternoff
Dave Seaman
Nic Fanciuli
Tiefschwarz
Deep Dish
Jan Johnston (Live PA)
Nadia Ali (Live PA)
Lee Burridge
Luke Fair
Steve Lawler
Dave Aude
Jon Bishop
Sander Kleinenberg

lots of local nights and maybe one or two more i can't remember...

of those i'd have to say my top 3 were

1. Lee Burridge
2. James Zabiela
3. Sasha

i'd never see Lee Burridge before, but the guy threw down. such a great night. zabs and sasha were their usual awesome selves.

was kinda disappointed by seaman...maybe he just had an off night. and the nadia ali live PA was kinda lame because she sung her two songs and it was over haha.

nic fancuili and tiefschwarz were great. same with luke fair really liked his set. the way out west guys were great. ok so everyone was really good haha.

Dave Aude and Jon Bishop...not really my style, but i ended up there...it was ok.

i've not been clubbing as much as I'd have liked to this year, missed some big nights due to work comitments.

Highlight's for me were travelling to cocoon club in frankfurt for hawtin and rios and the sonar festival in barcelona - absolutely amazing.

didn't go out as much this year, but still managed to see a fair number of djs.

highlights:

-> seeing sven vath and picotto @ club space this past march; hadn't seen mauro since '02 and sven since '00, but they were outstanding during a meganite party -- picotto was also dope a few days later.

-> marco bailey impressed this past summer

-> up-and-comers cedric gervais and serge devant threw shit down the times i saw them

-> saw ferry earlier in the year and he impressed as well with a high energy set

-> saw tiesto a bunch of times and despite some hit-or-misses i felt he was better than he had been in years. he dropped my favorite set of the year @ space during the wmc, tracklisting here.

lowlights:
-> g&d continuing to drop sloppy sets, despite playlisting tunes i generally enjoy (the same could be said of holden)

-> pvd @ summerstage in nyc: last year's party in the middle of a rainstorm was tremendous; this year, pvd had an overall off year and his central park party was lackluster and poorly-flowing

-> tiesto exporting his concerts overseas

-> everybody sucking electro and new wave cock...

Haven't been to as many parties as I'd like to, hopefully better next year. I'm planning to do better anyway.

Went to Extrema, Dance Valley and Awakenings festivals in the summer, which was pretty neat. Top performances:

- Richie Hawtin at Extrema
- Takaaki Itoh at Awakenings
- Function at Awakenings
- The psytrance tent at Dance Valley

Not so top performances:

- The minimal tent at Awakenings, liked by many but it's just not party music to me, doable for home listening sometimes but that's about it.
- Chris Liebing at Dance Valley, well, his first fifteen minutes anyway, in between the sound failures (which he didn't hear until a few minutes later) he threw down some pretty uninteresting stuff. Reason enough to check out something else for me.

Additions maybe later..

Steve Lawler (2x)
John Digweed
James Zabiela (2x)

2. Laurent Garnier @ Rex Club paris
3. James Zabiela @ Monday Night Social (small monday night lounge/bar venue in LA!)
4. Steve Lawler @ Avalon (Both times)
5. James Holden @ Avalon

Alot of the shows were great, James was awesome at Avalon, Digweed was amazing on a tuesday night FREE bpm party...12-2am and just banged it out for two solid hours! Sasha & Desyn @ Fundacion were amazing. Solarstone played a very good trance set...best I've heard this year.

3. Tarbernner playing after Sasha...killed the mood COMPLETELY

I've done fuck all clubbing this year compared to previous ones. Gone are the days where I would be out near enough every week unfortunately. In 2005 the DJ's i've seen are: (I've seperated them into nights)

Dylan Rhymes
Lee Burridge
Paul Jackson

Graeme Park
Eric Prydz

John O'Callaghan
John Askew
Paul van Dyk
Andy Bagguley

Jerry Bonham
Paul van Dyk

My favourite night was Graeme Park and Eric Prydz at Gods. Especially Graeme Park's set, who played lots of fun house. Plus it's great to be able to say i've actually heard a set from this legend.

Another honourable mention on the list was PvD's 6 hour set at Roxy, and even more so Jerry Bonham's warmup which was just shit hot. This is the first time I have ever been clubbing in NY, so this night was very special to me.

The rest of those DJ's seen this year can be broken down into the following 3 categories:

Very good - Lee Burridge, Paul Jackson

Okay - Dylan Rhymes, John Askew

Dog Shit beyond belief - Andy Bagguely, John O'Callaghan

Had a quiet year this year due to not many internationals coming over and crazy work.

Saw:
Prodigy (Live)
Hyper
Rank 1
Signum
Armand van Helden
Luke Chable
MIKE
Richie Hawtin
Marco V
Benjamin Bates
Mauro Picotto
Dave Lea

Highlights for me were definitely
Prodigy
Marco V
Rank 1 - pretty shite atmosphere, but a great set.

Picotto also played a great set but I wasn't really in the mood for it, which sucked cos I'm sure I would have enjoyed it immensly

Lowlights
Missing Hybrid
Some random rnb club I got dragged to
