which is a Dell laptop and trying it out now its not too shabby buuut i hooked it up to my mixer a Vestex PCV-275 just to listen to some choonage an i notice that when i load up a song or right when a song loads up i hear a lil noise (i think its the sound it processing or that sound from it being not grounded or something theres a noise bottom line) and i wanted to know is there anyway i can fix that with my laptop since i plan on using serato with it in the future? thanx
and just to make sure i hooked it up to the phono jack that is the correct place to put it right?

and i even plugged in an external usb soundcard and still get it!!
so i just use a PB Slimveiw pc now !!

you could try lowering the wav output and raising the master volume in your computer's mixer settings.. or vice versa i can't remember
anyways, that usually helps me when i get feedback.

no, that is not right. you should only connect a TT to the phono jack. everything else plugs into line/aux/cd jack. because pretty much everything else puts out line level sound, but TTs need a RIAA pre-amp, because the signal from them isn't as strong, so the RIAA pre-amp is built in to the mixer and works on the phono jacks.
and i'd recommend buying a good external soundcard. i've never in my life seen a laptop with even a half decent integrated sound card, so you're probably getting noises from there too.

ya that's true some time ago me and my friend recorded set on his laptop with integrated soundcard and we've used line in. in this set is some fuc*** strange noise not so loud but annoying

Dells always have problems like this, i hate to tell you but you should have done some research and avoided dell if you were going to use the laptop for audio.
My guess is that its a ground loop problem, does it stop when you remove the charger? An external soundcard will probably reduce the problem but may not eliminate it completly. Play around with the grounds, perhaps you can hook the ground of the mixer to a bare metal part of the laptop? I know that the noises stops on my old dell laptop when i disconnect the ground pin for the ac charger (this probably isnt the best idea, i dont even know if its legal)

TRS is a type of connector its stands for - Tip, Ring, Sleeve.
They are stereo connectors with sheilding, here is a pic.
Balanced isnt a connector. A Balanced singal just needs an extra set of cables. So it can send a copy of the singal but inverted and to sub from eachother blablabla, no point explaining.
Nearly forgot the main point of my post.
Phono jack is another name for a TRS jack. It can also be a TR jack (just Tip, Ring) that is mono.

i get the same with my acer laptop.. I just lower the output volume on the lappy and raise the gain right up on the mixer.. Do it the other way around and you'll just be amplifying noise!!
Im pretty sure its because the the lappy needs grounding.. Never noticed a difference with the ac power in or running off batts. will try that tho
Yea most laptops are a pain when it comes to ground loops but in my case with my old amp my laptop worked fine yet it was my pc that had the problem. I had to get wires going from my pc case to my mixer and to my amp just to reduce the noise abit. I got a new amp and its fine now though with my laptop and PC.
