yeah thats what i hear is the earliest although sony keeps saying theyre on target.
i thinks its cuz if they went public now saying xmas 2006 or early 2007 people would say screw it and get xbox 360 but if they say summer and then in july say sorry its now december, people will say ok ill just wait the extra few months, ive waited this long already. |
The insider information that I read about has some grim news regarding the Sony PlayStation 3 as a whole. Apparently the entire design team was fired and all old blueprints were scrapped around 3 months ago after the first batch of units produced all overheated shortly after being powered on. Due to the overwhelming power of the Cell processor and the multiple cores, the cooling system devised for the device was nowhere near as efficient as originally planned. If these "inside information" turns out to be true, Sony might be in a huge mess and might end up delaying their next generation console till 2007. There's always the other alternative where we get a quickly-thrown-together console so as to not release your console last out of all your competitors. I'm hoping Sony's a bit more composed and does NOT rush into this race if it doesn't have a complete console.

The release window for the Sony PlayStation 3 was last slated as:
JPN: Q2/Q3 '06
USA: Q3/Q4 '06
PAL: ??/?? '07
I'm more inclined to say that the later quarter per region will be the actual release date for said region.

Some good news for you, however, is that the images of the console that you know as the "Sony PlayStation 3" all (but a select few) seem to be missing the little stand-up next to the device saying that this is a "concept design". There's a chance that the PS3 will look very different from what we are seeing Sony constantly promote.
A little bad news to follow that is the fact that Sony has decided to stay with the Batterang-style controller as a standard. While it looks weird, the peripheral might be more comfortable and handy than we think. However, most gamers would have it unchanged from the original Dual Shock controller for the PlayStation 2, seeing as how they believe in the motto "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I hope that answers any and all questions that arose in the other thread. If not, ask away!
