Technics tables...

Im about to purchase 2 iether mk2 or mk5 turntables for mixing trance and tech/trance... im buying them used from ebay:

1) are there any "noticable" differences between the two?

2) which one has the the little nob at 0 pitch? i kind of don't want that as im gonna be changing pitch quite frequent right around 0 pitch.. does it really make a difference???

-reason i ask this is i can find used mk2's for cheap.

-please only respond if you have expierience with BOTH tables.. than ks.

-also please don't respond with "why not mix with cd's" i already know all the reasons why.. i already have a bunch of wax, and i want to learn this way first

TIA

the mk2s have a quartz lock that automatically triggers at 0. the mk5s have a "pitch reset" button that when pushed activates the quartz lock and keeps the track at 0%.

besides this there is no noticable differece. i think there is improved anti-skating on the mk5s but i wouldnt be messing with that anyways.

quartz lock is just how the deck locks in at 0 pitch. mk5s have a button mk2s have a notch at 0. the notch can be an annoyance if you are trying to match something up close to 0. go with the mk5s if you can.

Quartz is the crystal it uses and watches use to keep things intime.
Its complicated but im sure there are TAs who understand it. I have no clue.

BTW with the MK2s when the pitch led is on does that mean that quartz lock is on and its on %0? Or is it when it clicks?

although I'm pretty sure you can mod your mk2's so they don't have that pitch click thingie. if there's a really noticeable difference in price between the two, and you're on a budget, i'd say get the mk2's and mod it instead.

ive done alot of mods to my tables

removing the 0 notch is not easy, and i wouldnt recommend it unless you are really into messing with things, or you are very good at soldering

i can say that not having the 0 notch is wonderful.. but its not the end of the world if its there

Removing the notch is one of the more involved modifications that requires good soldering skills, and a clean place to work.
