As I listen:
Very smooth element transitioning in the intro; snare roll could be a tad less loud, or use something else; love the percussion!; don't particularly enjoy the bass: introduce it better to change that, and perhaps add a small amount of delay or chorus; working better at 2:15; good ambiance created with your background atmos pad and the subtle fx stabs; bass could be awesomer I think; bring in that lead synth a little more subtley, or in a cooler way; 3:09 nice; 3:40 that lead is very shrill... bubbly is a-ok, but EQ it so the high-frequency don't pierce quite so much; transition into the bridge is a little sudden; cool pianos, random notes, and sounding rather muffled; 4:40 good pad, think the piano notes are still too random and need structure; snare roll, bleh; 5:08, beautiful... I *LOVE* talking robot synths, and you do it well.. capitalize on this strength! ; bass might be too loud still and just not gluing it all together; synth works well with the robots, and i'm really enjoying them as they get more intense!; 6:24, it's really going nicely now.. the elements are all working better, though the bass needs tweaked.. did i mention that yet? (teasing); the lead that comes in seems a bit fast, and perhaps hinting at it subtely before bringing it in would acquaint the listen more with its sound; pianos aren't adding to the track at this point, but perhaps another instrument with similar notes might; 8:12 nice change of pace, piano notes too random and muffled; nice transition with this new synth, it sounds good, and i like the filtering; robots sound cool with this synth, though their frequencies are clashing: automate an EQ here to fix and make them pop into their own frequencies; 10:00, the track isn't doing anything really new at this point and probably could use some silence to create some tension; EQ is needed at 10:31, too much going on; I have a feeling this piano might sound better if you accentuated certain notes, and made it a tad slower; track ends quickly, i like the background ambiance in the ending, but it might make mixing out of the track a bit tricky.
overall: your drums and percs are sometimes lost in the loudness of the synth bass and leads/pianos. Fix. Less is more sometimes.
And there you have it... I tried to be comprehensive since no one responded yet to this, for some reason. Capitalize on your strengths; outrun your limitations.
Cheers and thanks for sharing the track. |
