technics problem

argh so fustrating. i picked up a set of second hand technics and a mixer yesterday.

technics sl-1200mk2's.
numark dm1002x.

i hooked everything up when i got home but i noticed a huge problem. sounds like one of the tables is mono or something. i can see its not getting picked correctly in the mixer ( and the sound comes out of one speaker only ). could it be the cables or is the table itself messed up. if anyone could shine some light that would be grand. thanks

edit// im using stanton 6800al needles, but i also have numark cc-1's.

i swapped needles and its still happening so im assuming its not the needles.

ya i did that as well.... its the connection between the headshell and the arm... so i hapened to have a stanton groovemaster II... rilly good headshell and needle.... so i used that one.... my stanton sk 605 needles woudnt work on that one... but the groovemaster needles are like $200... so i woudnt recomment buying new ones jus to fix this problem... but when i replaced it with that one it worked on my buddys tables...

One of the photos may be damages, the connection from the headshell to the tonearm or the wiring in the tonearm itself.

Time to get em serviced.

i had the same problems...
it was caused by a blown cart.
replace the cart...

if thats not the case, buy a new tonearm...

it could also be that one of the cables (that connect to mixer) is bad. maybe the plug is bad. have you tried moving the cable while a record is playing? does the sound cut in and back out? is you have to set the cable a certain way to get sound out of both speakers it's either the cable or the rca plug that's bad. did you try switching the turntables? if the bad one sounds good, and the good one goes mono, then it's a problem w/the mixer. either the inputs are messed up, or the mixer has an internal problem. if the bad tt still sounds bad, and good one still sounds good, then it's definately the TT.

also when fixing things, do the cheap things first. i would suck to replace a tone arm and wiring just to find out the cart was messed up... or the phono preamp is messed up on the mixer.

You obviously didnt read the other posts.

Change as many variables as possible, swap the channels on the mixer to make sure its not the inputs (like sr has mentioned)
If you try everything and still have no success it may be worth removing the bottom of the deck and checking the wiring of the faulty channel.
Before you do anything though and before you look at putting down any cash for a service remember to get in contact with the seller.
