All right. Just got in...

In the time I have been an active member of this forum, I've been known to be rather biased, hypocritical, closed-minded, and all of those assorted things. A few review threads have had those infamous elements added to them. I will not deny that.


THIS IS NOT one of those review threads.

Everyone knows I ADORE Paul van Dyk. Seeing him get #1 was an ultimate dream come true. I guess with that came higher expectations...and a major, MAJOR freefall would happen should those expectations not be met.

^THAt was the case tonight.

I don't know whether it was the lack of vibe, location or something else, but my favorite DJ in the world failed to provide me and my fellow TAs with a good set tonight. At times he would bring the set in with some good slamming tunes, like Second Sun - Playground (NU NRG remix), followed by John O'Callaghan - Vendetta.

Then he would put some kind of autistic, monotonous crap that had no dancable, positive energy filled vibe whatsoever.

Other tunes included: Running Water, Marco V - False Light, that U2 remix (not where the streets have no name. Art knows which one I mean.) Pictures...

Everyone I talked to tonight thought the set was absolute shit.

It took me almost an entire year to realize that his Thanksgiving 2004 set was shit. I'll NOT make that mistake this time and say this was almost as catastrophic as that last infamous event/gig.

TA turnout was great. A big surprise seeing the cute Katie (KatKit7274) in town again. Sweetie, it's been so long! You were having a mega blast in the DJ booth dancing.

Met Dream Beamz, who also didn't like the set, along with Akkare. Also met elecmfreak (spelling?) , and hung out with my usual crew, minus Mel, Flo and Karen. Am I glad you guys didn't make it for this. Straight up: you would have been disgusted. I only wish Flo were there so he could bluntly describe how awful the set was.

To top THAT off, he closed with Time of Our Lives (UK remix). THAT pretty much sealed the fate of tonight's set.

Edgar did another FANTASTIC opening set. Played Open Your Eyes. He played a couple of house tunes that I wasn't crazy for, but as I said time and time again, his brand of house gets the crowd going, and it did just that. Bro, keep up the good work.

As for tonight, I do not say this very often but I wanna kick someone's ass or break something. I feel cheated, disgusted and just plain fuckin' annoyed.


I'll post the pics before sunrise tomorrow. Can't be arsed to right now with the way I'm feeling.

DUDE !!! There's no excuse for the #1 dj in the world to suck !! My boy Edgars gonna be upset at me for this post but the truth is the truth !! PVD has sucked for the past couple of years ! And anyone who knows me knows that ive been saying this for a few years now . Edgar V is a wayyyyyyyy better dj and Paul should be opening for HIM !! Those of you that keep following him are either deaf or just plain musically illiterate !! Im in no way just doing this to bash Paul but c'mon man !! Doesnt the #1 dj in the world be atleast descent ?? Those of you guys that keep going to see this dude and say OMG HE WAS SO GOOOD , OMG HE WAS SO GREAT ETC ETC CAN JUST SUCK MY BALLS !! YOU GUYS DONT KNOW A DAMN THING ABOUT GOOD MUSIC !!! Stop going by what a damn magazine considers the best dj's and support your locals that are playing their hearts out and taking their time to look for and select the best tunes to bring to you guys than a rich hot shot that made it big and doesnt even try anymore . Im not saying PVD was never good as i loved the guy at one point !! But his last great set that i saw was over 4 years ago when Space was re-opened after it was closed down back then .. What does that say for the #1 dj ?? well imo he needs to let some of his ego go and start trying again ! Unless he figures out theres still a bunch of idiots that still think he is God and decide to keep wasting their hard earned $$$ on seeing him play trash !! Till then , id rather "GIVE" my money to Edgar , Eric or Relik !!! FUCK THAT SHIT !!

wow im not sure where you guys were tonight... hmmm glad all u FLTA's support your local Djs and whatnot - but imo Edgar V still sucks as much as he has for his entire career - I thought his set was boring tonight as usual - total pvd wannabe... pvd was on fire tho, amazing set... that lazer in Spirits is totally insane... especially from the balcony above the VIP level. WOW - those are intense visuals!

like to start off by saying DA is right on the money. i usually would leave it at that but i just cant do that tonight. Spirits is a real nice club , good vibe,nice crowd, ev played a great OPENING set(he rarely if ever disappoints). but for fuks sake man paul what the fuk were u thinking, im sure u had your reason for playing the biggest piece of shit of a set ive ever heard but fuk man could you at least have played a few good tunes for the people who paid 25-50 dollars to see you. another thing STOP PLAYING HOUSE when u come to miami(or whatever you call that crap u were playing) WE DONT WANT TO HEAR IT, we get WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more than enough of that crap from our local residents. man im fuking pissed, PVD bored me and ALL of my friends to death tonight what a waste

I don't know who you are, or where you come from, but you are SADLY mistaken. Edgar V's career is to be reckoned with. There is a reason why he is Paul's main opener for most, if not all of his gigs. If he sucked as you say he does, then PVD sucks the big one because he picked Edgar to open for him. 2 'sucks' does not equal 'awesome'. PVD wannabe?!? Give me a break dude.

PVD has obviously done something right to be where he is at, but tonight was just no good; very disappointing. For some reason, he comes to Miami and whimps out. I can't explain it. Compare his sets here to any other set from around the world, and no question: ANYWHERE > MIAMI!!! Hands down! I guess we gotta leave the country to get a top notch set from PVD

pvd sucks, no way!!!! this years #1 dj award was a lifetime achievment award, not reflective of a single great year...

i agree with alot of what koky has to say, the times ive gone to blue(not enuff lately) eric spun his balls off... and for the dude who slammed edgar, get a bloody clue, everytime pvd is in town, edgar wipes the floor with his ass, and their styles are totally dissimilar. your entitled to your opinion tho, however retarded it might be...
i still think in the world of "big jock" trance right now corsten reigns supreme. and its yo-yo performances from the rest of these big name jocks, propably because the pvds and tiesto's tour way, way too much, take a week off a month, get rejuvanated, your bank account is still going to have six or seven zeros at he end of the day. this gratuitous touring is just plain overkill, and you see and feel the exhaustion and lack of energy in these guys sets. and i think the downfall of some these giants is becuase of their ever increasing popularity in the states, these guys used to come here once, maybe twice a year to play, now they tour here it seems all year long. if you look back to the decrease in quality of these guys gigs, it almost directly correlates to there increased touring here and worldwide. these guys need to cut the gigs down to five or six gigs a month,not a week. just my .02.

You obviously have only heard Edgar opening and have no idea what the man can do when he "ISNT" opening and actually headlining. I have heard some of the most amazing music when Edgar was the headliner at Space a few years back every damn weekend . But again , like i said up top .........
