iv had a pair of numark cs since january 2003 and they've been workin well for me since. just make sure to clean the 4 pin connectors after a couple years or else you might lose sound in your left or right speaker.

Ive only had to change mine because they have broken..
They should last you a LONG time if taken care of properly.

Both times they broke it was human error (not myself), not wear and tear damage that resulted in them breaking.

they actually do wear out! for me i replace mine every 9 months. also i think i read that when they are had it they can slowly ruin your vinyl than normaly. when you know you need to change them is when they start to pop and crack alot! sound qaulity goes also.

cheers

Worn down styluses wear your vinyl more.
The life of the tip all depends on how much weight you apply, scratching, backspinning, dust, gunk and whatever else you can think of. Look after them but dont keep them too long or your vinyl will suffer.

I was under the impression that just the stylus wears out?

I'm a bit skeptical of how often styli "need" to be changed. I have two Ortofon Nightclubs that I bought at the same time over a year ago, and recently figured it was time to switch them out. So I bought one Ortofon DJ stylus, planning to get a second, but haven't yet bothered. I can't really tell any difference between the new DJ stylus and the old Nightclubs. In fact, even after a year of average use, the Nightclubs seem to sound a bit better.

I also keep my records very clean and brush my stylus between most play. I've noticed no major downhill of treble or deterioration of punchiness to indicate the Nightclubs failing. So perhaps it depends on how you take care of them. Constantly running an uncleaned needle over dusty grooves is probably not a formula for longevity.
