Acropod-TALES BEYOND THE UNKNOWN

ACROPOD-"TALES BEYOND THE UNKNOWN" Klik Records
Deep Atmospheric Soundscapes/From Deep House 2 Breaks and from Downtempo 2 Drum&Bass
All in one because MUSIC IS SO SPECIAL!

The two members of Acropod, Vasilis Giouvris and Savas Karabinos, have recently released on the Greek record label Klik Records an artist album named Tales From the Unknown. Straight from Athens, the strong and impressive sound from the album focuses upon the listener’s mind through some hypnotic and mesmerized melodic lines.
Coming with 11 tracks, the album encompasses a large variety of beats and melodic riffs, speaking about the music not as a “supermarket” since their music can’t be placed under a particular “tag”. Straight from Athens, the strong and impressive sound from the album focuses upon the listener’s mind through some hypnotic and mesmerized melodic lines. Really ambient, very chill and soft, sophisticated and mellow, the breaks combinated with some progy ambient music creates a unique and lush atmosphere, which is the right image that reflects the album. One of Britain's well known deep and atmospheric sound producers, Aural Imbalance (a.k.a. Simon Huxtable), has managed to find some time to remix the track Floating Mythodia. Let's see where the tales lead us to.

The CD starts with a very deep ambient called Chemisphere. The openingtrack has a rather long intro, before an easy triphop-like beat comes in. What follows, is a slow, atmospheric tune with echoes and a warm bassline and continues with the melodic breaks Macrocosm, a really peaceful and profound track which unlashes some spiritual energies hard to be described in simple words. The third track featured on the album is Floating Mythodia, consisting in a deep and quiet progressive work, very atmospheric as well. Looks like the forth Silver Butterfly brings some energy and wakes up the listener, warming up the scene with some nice breaks, very mentally and sophisticated produced, and later it’s time for Prism of Essence to calm down the spirits focusing on the mellow and deep break beat with ambient melody.A violin sample gives it a middle eastern kind of feeling to it.
The Path of Future Growths is, like Ancient World, a more house-like song due to the beat.
Soulcolours is a beautiful ambient track, very hypnotic and nostalgic, combining a fluit, violin and guitar to set the right tone of voice, very beautiful and emotional indeed. The remix by Aural Imbalance of Floating Mythodia works pretty well. It has the houseclap which is found in the early 90ties housetracks, and a same bassline. Synths, effects and echoes work their way towards the end of the track. The beats per minute are similar compared to the original version, this one feels lighter with higher sounds, but there’s the great drum and bass called Airfield that takes the listener up, at least spiritual if not physical, building nicely and containing an almost Adam F (Colours) like feeling. The break lasts at least one full minute before plunging back into the deep. Airfield is a welcome variation on the album. .
The last but not the least is Nanosphere a cosmic and strange breaks tune, The track opens with a warm and mellow intro, adding more and more layers of synths. It keeps gaining more sounds to create a full spectrum of warmth and relaxation. A great sunday afternoon track this is.
Reflecting two personalities, so many various and complicated music tastes, mentalities, way of living and of perceiving the world, this album concentrates upon different things than the usual electronic kick ass monster party. It goes further, beyond the mind and the spirit, penetrating the consciousness and infiltrating in the feelings that we have regarding music in our way of understanding the concept. But in general, the music on this shiny disc can easily be enjoyed; more than one occasion per day.
This album really enters “beyond the unknown”.
