If your vocals are gay, you might want to consider an intervention with them. Sometimes vocals get to a point in their life when they're confused and have identity issues. Sometimes it's just a phase, so don't worry, but it's important to respect the decisions of your vocals when it comes to these things. If they've really given it a lot of thought, then maybe you should back off and give them some space.

What i meant was i need a bit of advice in teh eqing department on vocals or filtering any general advice, i did a search and i know about the advice in the sticky thread but i thought someone might have something worth sharing

1. Delay slightly
2. slight Reverb or Chours
3. EQ until vocals sound clear and they way you want them to be.

3 simples tips I usually use because having a naked vocals sounds nasty.

Which makes me think... lately this forum has been thick on questions and thin on answers. I think it's high time people actually started posting tutorials and sharing information instead of sponging.

I've seen numerous threads about vocal compression and EQing. Unfortunately, the stickies are not a comprehensive lexicon of the entire universe of possible questions that have been answered on this forum. The search button starts where Diginut leaves off.

Also, personally, the constituent parts of my mix don't have sexual preferences. Although, my JP has been known to play a little grab-ass if over-compressed.

That is true, it's just too bad that most of those numerous threads have a lot of questions, few answers, and moderate doses of bad advice. There used to be more *information* around here... or maybe I'm exercising selective memory.

Of course the stickies aren't going to answer every production question in the universe (nor should they, otherwise the forum would be pointless), but if some good information has been posted answering those awfully general questions like "how do I do vocal shizzity" then someone should bring it to my attention so I can put it in the hall of fame.

Hehe cool, all i was really after was even some simple help like what Kryptic wrote Thanks.

I'm no expert on vocals, but when mixing vocals, two things I would definitely look at are EQ and compression. Roll off unwanted bass frequencies and rumble with a highpass filter, and for the rest mostly shape the sound however you want, and to suit the mix, and/or reduce any problematic regions. Depending on how pronounced you want the compression effect to be, go with either a multiband compressor (minimum artefacts, plus you can use it as a de-esser), or a colourful wideband compressor (e.g. Waves RComp). Set the release nice and tight, or slightly longer depending on the singer and/or genre. Set the attack longer to make the vocal more pronounced, or lower for a smoother sound. Following this, you can of course apply reverb, delay, whatever. In fact, you don't even have to place the effects in this order, as experimenting and learning by trial and error is half the fun.

As for editing, I'd suggest Sound Forge. Just remember to increase the bit depth if you're going to edit samples offline.

it's funny that you say that because almost every answer to a question is "do a forum search" or "read the manual". what's the point of even asking questions here?
