How do you make the main audio output appear as a track so I can use the automation for the effects I will put on it?

first off, i don't know why you would want to automate anything on the master buss... but to basically get the same effect you could make a group track and assign everything to it. then put whatever effects you want on the group track and automate away.

usually you wouldn't do that...but it is possible...what you have to do is put all your tracks in a group track and set up your fx in the group channel and set your automation in that channel.
edit: i posted at teh same time the other guy did.

As Kooma said....
You must enjoy the sound of feedback
In a nut-case you can't that's why Cubase won't allowit. You would create a feedback loop by re-sending the audio output back through another track and then back through the audio output again....and so on.
Use the W button to automate any effects on the output or input busses whilst the song is playing. This will create a new Track Folder called Input/Output, in there you will find all the automation tracks for the output and input channels.
Use the R button to activate/deactivate the automation that you just created.

BUS all tracks as one as was described
Also true is that you can't have a master track show up on your sequencer because your sequencer is meant as an overview of all inputs for your master track.
Adding automations to your master track is always done in the Mastering phase of your production. So first mixdown your track, close the Project and import the wav into a new mastering setup Project of Cubase. A pre-master or mixdown is as clean as you can get it, so no effects on the master track before Mastering.
Welcome to the whole new world of mastering. You can do it in Cubase but some prefer designated Mastering software.
Music is as universal to people as breathing. We've probably been at it since before we even started talking. Immaging two cavemen smashing away at a peace of flint to make a spearhead. It wouldn't take long for them to learn te synchronise the sound. And there you have it, the words first percussive band.
Music has survived wars, famines, the plague and many other things and has evolved with man across many cultures. Dance music is just the next step in the evolutionary chain. My guess is that it will probably be with us untill we are extinced.
