Cubase, rewire, and reason

Hey guys,

I've never used rewire before...I'd like to use reason with cubase, because I really like the redrum for drum programming. However..when I try to open reason 2.5 with cubase sx 3 already open it says that my sound card is being used by another program and shuts down. I have a sound blaster live. Any idea how to fix this?

Your problem is obvious.

Really?

I mean, i know it's not a premium production soundcard but I figure it can handle rewire...am I wrong?

While we're on the topic, what would be a good alternative soundcard? I use all software...and the one external device I have, the midi controller, actually is USB as opposed to standard midi. So I don't need any more physical inputs/outputs than my SB live gives me. Knowing all that, what would I gain from going to another soundcard?

When you use reason and cubase rewired, cubase will be the host and reason the slave. Wich means you have to open cubase first and then you open reason. When you have created your cubase-project you got to activate the reason-channels 1 & 2 (L & R) under Devices -> Reason.
Then you should be ready to go!

Good Luck!

Cool...it actually works now. Before it wouldn't even get that far, guess that was just a random error. Thanks dude.

People do it for different reasons. You can do everything with cubase. However, I know reason a lot better than cubase, and I'm trying to ease myself in to the cubase thing. Plus I don't have many plugins for cubase yet...and I don't like the drum programming that comes with cubase. So I'm using reason for that, and cubase for everything else.

I did personally to make the switch from Reason to Cubase smoother because I had only used Reason so I still wanted to use it for certain things, mainly for the Redrum. So I used it as a slave to Cubase but only for a short time until I discovered Battery. I quickly stopped using Reason altogether and have never looked back after using Cubase.
