A chill out project on Beatport can be found for download called "Windspiel". It's a bit more new agey than Ulrich Schnauss is, but is very very beautiful guitar based chill music, very Ibiza-like. Also check out Cafe del Mar compilations, esp the Cafe del Mar: Ibiza series, which is a mixture of Ibiza style chill (with that class flamenco guitar sound) and some other chill styles (downtempo, trip hop, acid jazz, more traditional ambient). The compilations are compiled by Jose Padilla, long time Ibiza resident DJ/producer at Cafe del Mar in Ibiza. If you like a mixture of ambient with dance you might like some Moby, Royksopp, Chicane, Enigma or Delerium, however they are more pop and some are more vocal based (well except Chicane), Ulrich is more indie and instrumental. If you want less mainstream, and more textural and detached, try Boards Of Canada, Future Sound Of London, Steve Roach, Brian Eno or even some Aphex Twin, but those aren't that inspirational, they are darker and more experimental. So check out the first stuff I mentioned, you might like it if your looking for some inspirational stuff.

I would recommend checking out
William Orbit - Pieces in a Modern Style,
as I often listen to that back to back w/ my copy of UR - FATPB |
I know, thats why I said it's a bit more on the new agey side (Windspeil) and Cafe del Mar have a mixture of chill out styles on them, not just Ibizan. So thats a good way to start if your looking for a variety. There's not that many artists that quite have the magic of Ulrich, that I am aware of at least. Ulrich is more downtempo than ambient, and there's plenty of downtempo out there, but none that quite matches him. I wouldn't consider him completely ambient because there's a steadier, more noticeable beat. He's almost like a home listening-chill version of trance music, because his songs build and break and shift very similar to a melodic trance song, but at a much slower tempo. Downtempo-Trance perhaps??

Ophidian & Many of the Newstyle DJs. I find Ambient & Chillout so intriguing that I end up paying too much attention & never relaxing totally, with stuff that's very brutal, I'm able to switch myself off more.
