As above really..

I've recently become a proud owner of SSL

And while i've got everything set up and it's working fine, i'm just wondering whether i need new needles.

The reason why i ask is because for some reason (and this has never happened before) The vinyl seems to either be getting scratched or dust is stuck in the grooves.

Either way, if i play a tune for a while using the serato LP's to manipulate the song i start getting what looks like dandruff on my vinyls.

Just wondering if anyone else has ever had this happen to them and if so do you know what it is?

I was hoping on getting some lovely Shure Whitelables but still need to save up for them so i'm hoping the needles aren't fooked.

I have a Question about needles also.

When I put it in the beginning of the vinyl sometimes it would slide about .5 inch in its werid. On some records I would try about 3 times and then it will start going in the groove. But sometimes it just slides .5 inches in and starts to play. Does it mean more weight or bad needle?

n3lly is that stuff can you get it out? Try compressed air

Sounds like dirt is coming out of the grooves to me N3lly. Clean them with a cotton cloth and some distilled water and alcohol (recipes below)
And buy a carbonfiber vinyl brush to keep the dust away.

id steer away from whitelabels to be honest. best sounding needles ive ever owned but they lasted me less than a month and i never scratch or cue heavily

Sounds like heavy dirt on the vinyl mixed with a little grease. Maybe also you should check the counter weight on it, maybe you have it to heavy...

Basstard - I think i might go with the Shure M44-7's (think those are the ones)

Unless people think they're crap. Just can't afford the shure whitelabels at the moment, and if you say they wear out quickly... well doesn't really make sense.

By the by, Serato is amazing! Track selection freedom is a great feeling.. Anywho..

i'm gonna have to re-setup my tonearms again. Not 100% happy with em..

I think you might want to go with the m44g instead of m447 the m447s are for scratching.

My M44Gs lasted about a month as well. Replaced them with Ortofon Concorde DJ-Ss, and haven't looked back. That was almost 5 years ago.

Hmmm.. i thought this would be a lot easier then this...

Well then, i don't scratch, i don't really have a huge budget so something middle of the line (or slightly over) would be preferable

I have m44gs they are the original carts/styluses and still sound great after about 5/6 months. You dont need to spend big bux if its just for timecoded vinyl because you just need it to basicaly work.
I believe m44gs will be perfect getting whitelabels or ortofon concords will be over kill.
